Situated on the central Lewes thoroughfare, it is near-impossible to walk past the shop's open doors without popping in for a browse and a chat with its founders. And there are few people better placed to guide us around East Sussex's most historic market town.
For someone who's never been to East Sussex before: what's the very first place you'd take them?
That's simple: you head to the sea or a vista where you can see the sea from up high, such as the South Downs. Views beyond always make a place, I think. So seeing a town like Lewes from a distance, you can locate the castle – and from there you feel a sense of your position in space.
If you only had one day in the East Sussex and could only show someone three places, where would you take them – morning, afternoon and evening?
The Downs for a walk and some fresh air up high. A nice classic local pub with a decent view, or a picnic on said Downs. Then the Pells Pool for a cold dip and a hot sauna.
What's your favourite place in the East Sussex that most visitors don't know about – but absolutely should?
Now this is asking for trade secrets! Tylers Ground is a haven in an unexpected location for wonderful food and a total escape in amongst industrial agricultural buildings. A hidden gem, you might say.
Which three shops in the East Sussex do you always find an excuse to visit?
The Sussex Peasant market stalls. All of their produce is sourced from within 30 miles of East Sussex and the goods are incredible. It's also good value for high quality. Holy Cow! ice cream hut on Seaford Beach, preferably post sea swim. We are second-hand trawlers, so some of our favourite go-to spots for this are Mays stores on Cliffe high street in Lewes. Pastorale Antiques also has a lovely cafe as part of the courtyard and an idyllic suntrap spot with fantastic French fries.
Where do you go for a really good lunch and what do you order?
Pestle and Mortar for incredible broths, noodle soups, som tum salad and bhan mi! No34 for a decent filled focaccia sandwich and a soup, plus a good glass of carefully sourced wine. Or walk over the downs from Lewes to The Trevor Arms in Glynde for a pub lunch – perfect for when you really have worked up a good appetite.
You're splashing out on a hotel: where do you go?
It's not something we are often found to do! But a recent visit to Updown Farmhouse over the border in Kent was quite the treat. For something local, there are so many fantastic B&Bs in Lewes and the surrounding area, as well as The Grain Store in Kingston for that extra special escape.
And for a pampering fix?
SHY in Lewes for all those needs.
What about for a great coffee/tea fix?
We like to perch on the roadside spot outside Caccia and Tails on Lewes high street to get the feeling of a little European moment on route to work with a sweet focaccia treat thrown in.
Who is your favourite local artist or maker – and where can people find their work?
Linda Felcey has always had our hearts for her fantastic still life and landscape paintings on different mediums such as oil on paper, canvas and tin.
Favourite local florist?
We tend to go for wild cuttings more than cut stems so we do not often visit the florist, but if we are in the market for something a little extra and we know the wild will not deliver, then we will get in touch with Clare at Bulb.
Where do you go when you're celebrating?
To the beach for a sea swim with a basket of treats and good friends or to see someone fantastic playing music or acting / speaking! We are spoilt for choice around here.
And for a proper culture fix?
The cinema. There is nothing more enjoyable than sinking into a large seat at the Depot - Lewes's independent cinema – for a movie. Simple pleasures.
Where do you go when you need a big view?
The top of the cliffs from Seaford's splash point is hard to beat on a rainy or clear day. You are truly exposed to that height and expanse up there.
Who is your ultimate local hero and why?
The wonderful people who set up the Lewes Depot cinema as a charitable not for profit venue. This town had been screaming out for a cinema for a long time and they have truly delivered. Tuesday half-price tickets. Very reasonable tickets all year round, and a wonderful space providing a lot for the town all round. Commendable.

Spring and summer are ideal for walking the Downs and enjoying the surrounding countryside, while autumn brings beautiful colours. November's famous Bonfire celebrations are spectacular, though the town becomes exceptionally busy.

Seaford, Cuckmere Haven and Birling Gap are all within easy reach and offer some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in Sussex.
