UK-based repairs and alterations platform SOJO has become the first mending company to achieve B Corp certification.
“The Deliveroo of clothing repair services
”
Dubbed as the ‘Deliveroo of clothing repair services’, 25-year-old Josephine Philips founded the London-based fashion tech platform in January 2021. The motivation was to try and create something that would help make the fashion industry more circular, making repair convenient, easy and mainstream, by making getting your clothes tailored a hassle-free process.
Eco-savvy Londoners loved the simple interface which allowed them to type in their post code and immediately be connected with skilled seamstresses in their area. After nine months as a direct-to-consumer app, Sojo pivoted to B2B, building on partnerships with some of the fashion world’s buzziest brands and labels, including Ganni and Stine Goya.

Marks & Spencer then teamed up with the platform with ‘M&S Fixed by SOJO’, allowing customers to extend the life of their clothing. Customers book through a dedicated online hub and have their fixed items posted back to them. Sojo also took up a permanent space in Selfridges on London’s Oxford Street to provide customers with access to its clothing repairs service.
Nordic lifestyle brand Arket also launched an in-store and online garment repair and alterations service with SOJO.
Josephine Philips first recognised a lack of easy and accessible clothing repairs after she became a top seller on Depop in 2018, buying and selling one-off vintage garments. It was originally called Sewjo, a mix of sewing and her name, Josephine. But then she thought Sojo would be more memorable.
The business model is not without its challenges. Luckily the same five popular repair requests are made, but there are also limitations to externalising repairs, especially where brands use specialised materials or don’t make spare parts easily accessible to independent seamsters such as a button to be replaced. Luxury brands can offer the exact same button, but local tailors can’t.
The SOJO London team is made up of over twenty people and growing. A team of tailors, riders, technologists and creatives enable customers to start an order online.
