There is no need to leave your four-legged friend behind if you book this luxurious 17th century cottage by the banks of the River Brathay. A few minutes’ walk outside the pretty village of Little Langdale, this property – which sleeps six – has exposed beams, an open fire and woodburner and Farrow & Ball aplenty. Note: there is no mobile signal.

Swallows House
With its breathtaking views and exquisitely maintained garden the enchantingly named Swallows House is a haven for all kinds of wildlife. Nestled in the heart of the Lake District, the homes of Beatrix Potter, William Wordsworth and John Ruskin are all nearby. Please note that pets and children under the age of five are not allowed.
