Come early March, we’re all a bit fed up with being cooped up inside. And it’s not like us Brits aren’t used to the wet. With an average of 133 days of precipitation per year (yes, roughly a third), we’re all extremely well-versed on how to brave the elements for soggy work commutes and muddy weekend walks. But that doesn’t stop us hankering after blue sky days and a soupçon of sunshine; in fact we think and talk about it a lot!

Yes, you can have too much of a good thing. Rain. Well, the good news is that sunny, dry days are around the corner, and we can’t wait! Meteorologists predict that, while March may be colder, it will thankfully also be drier – hooray!

So, in preparation for spring we’re allowing ourselves to dream big. Think outdoorsy escapades and beachy weekends away. To help us with our planning we’ve asked the team at Luxury Coastal to share their top spots for a spring break with us; and like the first daffodils of the season, we think that a mini break in one of these gorgeous properties is a lovely way to usher in a new season.!

Dotty’s Hut in Kilve, Somerset

Dotty

If you’re all for strolls through sweeping wildflower meadows and hot tub soaks in nature’s midst, there are few places better than Old Rectory House smallholding in the Quantocks. And perched atop its own little hill with views right down to the coast, Dotty’s is one of just two traditional shepherds’ huts on site. With private outdoor areas and cosy interiors, they’re perfect for couples looking to embrace an early spring in complete relaxation.

Sunny Corner in Mousehole, Cornwall

Sunny Corner

As the name suggests, this gorgeous one-bedroom apartment nestles in a sun-splashed spot at the heart of the village, just a short stroll from Mousehole’s pretty little harbour. Its stunning décor may have a contemporary edge, but that doesn’t detract from the cosiness of an original Cornish stone dwelling complete with a balcony for catching the morning rays on, and a wood-burning stove to huddle round on chilly evenings.

Three Gables in Porth, Cornwall

Three Gables

Crisp strolls on the beach and alfresco dining in the countryside, this lovely home in Porth is the perfect combination of coastal proximity and rural quiet. And if you like a beautiful space that’s as comfortable to unwind in as it is easy on the eye, you’ll love the cool interiors and modern edge of the place. Plus, on bright days after a bracing beach stroll you’ll be able to open the huge sliding doors and enjoy a glass of Prosecco while spotting the local birdlife.

Pamela’s Meadow in Cheddar, Somerset

Pamela

Beautifully suited to all seasons, this luxury lodge comes into its own during the sunnier months. Backed by the Mendhip Hills and overlooking an apple orchard, the site at Strawberryfield Park really does offer a superb place to enjoy the unfolding of springtime, with picnic spots, walking trails and cycle routes aplenty. Of course, if you’d prefer to while the days away at home, there’s a hot tub from which to appreciate the scenery!

Fowey Penthouse in Fowey, Cornwall

Fowey Penthouse

There’s no disputing that Fowey is one of Cornwall’s coastal gems. A beautiful estuary and a pretty old-worldy fishing village are just two of the reasons so many holidaymakers flock here during the summer months. But if you’d like a slower paced break with a feeling of having the place all to yourself then the month of March is the time to visit. And you won’t find a better hideout than this penthouse apartment which has spectacular views over the water that you can enjoy from the vantage of your own private balcony.
