As a nation of shopkeepers – the British boutique is a wonderful thing – tucked away in market towns across the country, bringing independent and interesting brands to a local audience, with a healthy dollop of personal customer service and personality from their often characterful and stylist owners.

To celebrate our favourites throughout the South West, we’ve put together a ’10 of the best’ for those boutiques who offer a fantastic service online, too.

Dotty Home

ROUND CANE MAGAZINE RACK

Coastal Scandi interiors boutique, Dotty Home has two stores both on the Jurassic coast, one in Sidmouth, Devon and one up the bay in Lyme Regis, Dorset. Their newly launched website offers the same hand-picked edit of textiles, ceramics and glassware. Beautiful muted, natural hues with a coastal feel for creating that pared back Scandi look. There’s a great gifting section too, filled with jewellery, candles and leather accessories. We love the ‘Nordic Sea’ range of tableware in soft grey, blue and green hues with hand-painted stripes.

Circus

HOME INTERIORS

Circus Boutique in Sherborne is a riot of colour, the second you step inside the front door – a positive treasure trove of brands from Miller Harris to Bella Freud, M.i.H jeans and Penelope Chilvers. Whilst fashion reigns supreme upstairs, downstairs is a fantastic edit of handmade ceramics, True Grace candles, delicious Rococo Chocolates and Scandinavian toys, quirky cards and Provencal soaps. Owner Sam Bourne is the 6th generation of shop owners in the Dorset town and whilst the website is more a portfolio of their beautiful stock, they do offer a delivery service across the South West.

Brassica Mercantile

Velvet Rectangular Cushions

Brassica Mercantile is much like visiting the home of a friend with very good taste – everything has been picked with an effortless, eclectic eye – a wanderlust emporium of global finds – spanning Colombian hand-woven beach bags, Indian hand-block printed quilts, Parisian market baskets, Puglian splatterware ceramics and primary coloured British enamelware. The edit of books is a thing of beauty in itself. Whether you’re a foodie, or simply a magpie for beautifully made, colourful things. The website is a delight to pour over; prepare to be tempted.

Resident

Ferm Living Ceramic Basket - Small

Resident in Frome, on the charming cobbled Catherine Hill, made it into the ‘50 Best Boutiques in Britain’ in Stella magazine this year. With its woodburner, mini forest of house plants and pared back modern, minimal style – the boutique itself has a zen-like feel. The website has a similar pared back vibe. Stocking British and international ethical brands – particularly of note are the Laboratory Perfumes – individual, clean unisex scents; the graphic Ferm Living rugs and hand-poured candles from Hackney based, Earl of East.

Nukuku

Indu Mango Wood Photo Frames - Light Brown

Nukuku lifestyle store and café in South Devon is a mecca for interiors-loving tourists, who can happily get their hit online once they get home. Known for their handmade, Indian and Eastern inspired homewares, textiles, lighting and furniture, the craftsmanship is second to none – with hammered metal, leather, mango wood and dreamy washed linen. Make sure you check out the Artisan stories, a beautiful way of connecting customers to the skilled makers behind each product.

Jo & Co Home

Stone Large Positano Ceramic Pot

If you’ve ventured down to Cornwall on holiday, chances are you’ve whizzed (or crawled) past Hawksfield on the Atlantic Highway. A retail and creative hub - home to a vintage emporium, café, Finisterre Outlet and Jo & Home – the stylish lifestyle and interiors store. Known for her clean, muted ‘Farrow & Ball-esque’ palette, the website has the same relaxed, luxury feel. Whether you’re looking for linen cushions in every hue, velvet sofas in dusky blues and pinks, or a beautiful edit of modern, Scandi womenswear and accessories. A slice of stylish Cornish life, delivered.
