Should you feel your patch needs a bit of a design boost, don’t be disheartened, because sometimes all it takes is the addition of something man-made and decorative. To help you out, we have sought out the best sites for garden ornaments; all the better to enhance your garden with. Don't forget that our guest editor, Martine Davis, has a line in weatherproof art, suitable for outdoor use.

DAVID HARBER

Nothing offsets the beautiful unpredictability of nature better than the sleek, contemporary and innovative craftsmanship of a David Harber sculpture (an exhibitor at Chelsea this year). David uses light, water, the passage of time and reflections to create stunning sundials, obelisks, water features and garden sculptures. Each piece will be created as an original work of art, whether a unique commission or a personalised version of a David Harber design.

ANDREW KAY SCULPTURE

Emulate the power and beauty of wild animals with your own herd of deer, pair of boxing hares or a solitary, watchful badger made by Andrew Kay. Also currently exhibiting at Chelsea, Andrew Kay creates beautiful semi-abstract metal sculptures of animals, inspired by and designed to sit within the natural environment. Andrew’s studio is based in Cumbria, but his work can be found in gardens as far-flung as Dorset, Sussex and Argyll.

POTS AND PITHOI

Add some classical flavour to your garden with a beautiful Cretan pot. Pots and Pithoi sells planters and decorative pots, all made in Crete using traditional methods. Alongside these they also have an impressive collection of antique pots - a glorious display of pots with a patina that only age can achieve. Visit their showroom in West Sussex, or buy through the site. You'll also benches and other outdoor accessories for your garden.

GARDEN ART & SCULPTURE

Garden Art & Sculpture was set up by a graphic designer; a history that is written all over the illustrative and charmingly simple sculptures sold on the site. Ranging from rusted metal poppy seedheads at £35 to a full herd of deer at £2888, there is plenty here to liven up any flagging garden, whatever your budget.

FIREPITS UK

Make the most of your garden in the evenings with the help of a firepit or firebowl from Firepits UK. Handmade in the UK, these attractive and virtually indestructible pits are perfect for chilly summer nights and crisp autumn evenings - and they really do kick out a lot of heat. Firepits UK has designed a range of accessories, including pizza ovens, cooking racks and more besides - making these useful items even more indispensable….

SANDEDGE

We love the idea of putting mirrors into a garden for a little touch of whimsy, and the selection at Sandedge is particularly good. Offering a choice of romantic mirrors, shuttered mirrors and mirrors designed to look like windows, all of the garden mirrors at Sandedge will create the illusion of added space and light. The company also carries an excellent range of patio and garden furniture, planters, bird feeders and more.

HADDONSTONE

For replica classical garden statuary, Haddonstone has a large range of statues, busts and figures, which are ideal for formal gardens, lawns, terraces and courtyards, enabling you to create a focal point. The Gardener statue is a favourite and was inspired by a lead figure that once stood at Burton Agnes in Yorkshire. You'll also find a full complement of urns and pedestals, planters, bird tables, finials, sundials, balustrading and columns.

JOHN CULLEN LIGHTING

A garden will come alive at night with the simple addition of some good lighting. John Cullen Lighting is packed with external lighting solutions, including lights for steps, floodlights, pond lights and uplighters. Whether you decide to highlight your mature trees or dazzle the eye with a beautifully lit swimming pool, you can be sure that everything sold at John Cullen is as energy efficient and state of the art as it comes.
