This week we rate some really rather useful websites that can make your life easier when moving around the city. Whether you drive a car, or are fixed on public transport (Barclays bike for you), these are the sources to bookmark.

MAPQUEST

Looking for an alternative to Google Maps? Map quest offers open source maps updated in real time by users all around the world. The website features driving directions and live traffic too, so you can plan your journey with zero stress.

PARKOPEDIA

Oh, parking. We all know how exhausting it can be... Parkopedia (the encyclopaedia of parking) helps you find the closest parking lot, whether it's commercial, private or street, based on information submitted by its users. A veritable lifesaver.

WHATGAS

Let’s assume you just took your car for a day trip in the countryside. Driving immersed in bucolic landscapes can be beautiful, but it’s better to do it with your tank full, avoiding stressful situations. What Gas helps you find the nearest petrol station, and also compares prices; money saved to spend on more enjoyable activities.

TRAFFIC ENGLAND

Used by around 960,000 customers during an average month, Traffic England gives you the up-to-date traffic situation on England's motorways and major A-Roads. Thanks to this website, you’ll see the current congestion hotspots and avoid unnecessary queues and delays by deciding for instance to take a different route or leave at a different time. The service also features live CCTV so you can see just how busy the roads are.

SPINLISTER

Peer-to-peer economy is stronger than ever; and quite frankly, who doesn’t like the idea of saving money, maybe even making some, whilst being an active member of the community and consuming less? Spinlister is a website that offers a peer-to-peer bike rental service; you can register, enter your location, then see who’s renting their bike and make your own arrangement with them. If you have one, you can list it as well. An environmental-friendly way to explore the city.

TRAIN TIMES

When you’re running to catch your train, services like Train Times are invaluable. The website offers a live map of trains and tube, showing approximate positions of trains so that you know where yours is while going to catch it. The site also features a split ticket finder and of course live departure boards.

NEXT BUSES

Last but not least, take a look at Next Buses too. The website helps you find bus stops by simply entering a postal code, street or stop name, and also shows you the time schedule so that you’ll know if you should hurry or you can take your time.
