If Austen heroines were transposed to the 21st-century, they would surely be drawn like moths to flames towards If Only If’s collection of nightwear. Impossibly romantic (and ineffably comfortable), each wafting beauty makes the case for the resurrection of the nightie, for so many of us a long-ago fond relic of childhood.

Emily Campbell took over as owner and creative director of the brand from her mother, Issy Falkner, in 2020. Since then, she has expanded the collection exponentially, designing every beautiful piece herself and garnering legions of new disciples along the way.

Here, we steal a rare moment away from the drawing board to quiz her on the objects in her home that mean the most to her.

Pineider Blank Page Books

Pinedier Books

I found these in a shop in New York and have bought myself one every year since I took over the business. I design everything myself at If Only If and the size of the pages as well as the beautiful off-white colour just make my heart sing every time I pick up a pencil to draw. It also helps that they come in the best colours.

Clove At Home Pictures

Clover

I adore my pictures from Clove at Home – not only the most beautifully cut and pressed flowers but the framing is always immaculate. I’ve bought these for christening gifts too and just think they will be forever loved in a home.

My Desk

Desk

My desk was inherited from my parents. It has a simple red leather top and single drawer, but aesthetically it feels like such an elegant and welcoming space. I love sitting in our bay window to work watching our cherry tree change with the seasons.

My Bedside Table

Bedside Table

It will come as no surprise that I adore my bed and take the tabletop of my bedside table very seriously. No phones welcome in my room, only books and bits! Amongst fresh flowers, a picture of my mum and I, and a little rock my daughter found in Cornwall and doodled on for me, is this sweet little clam dish from Minnie Mae. It was a gift from a thoughtful friend and it’s so pleasing to look at – plus it houses my earrings safely until the morning.

A Nightie

A Nightie

Of course, home would be nothing without a nightie. The two are intrinsically linked to me. This summer I couldn’t have lived without our Clover Long in this divine pink cornflower – it’s at peak loved/softness level that only our buttery soft voile allows for.
