If you’re road-tripping this summer, make a detour to any of the farm shops that make our list – from Cotswold institutions to hidden Norfolk gems – and you and your tastebuds will be richly rewarded.
Daylesford Organic, Gloucestershire
There is no escaping the fact that Daylesford has become a byword for rarefied artisanal goods at high prices – but it has earned a reputation and devoted clientele for a reason. Get ready to be seduced by immaculate displays of organic fruit and vegetables, outstanding cheeses, bakery counters, seasonal flowers and beautifully presented homewares. Yes, it's chichi, but the quality is difficult to fault. Plus, few places do a leisurely breakfast or lunch quite so well.
Don't leave without: A loaf from the bakery and something from the cheese counter.
Jarrolds Letheringsett
Housed with a beautiful barn just outside Holt, Jarrolds Letheringsett – formerly known as Back to the Garden – is firmly rooted in the Norfolk landscape. The emphasis is on produce from the farm itself alongside carefully chosen local suppliers, with excellent meat, vegetables, artisan cheeses and one of the county's most consistently good cafés.
Don't leave without: Norfolk cheeses and an organic chicken that somehow tastes as they did in our childhoods.
Walsingham Farms Shop
If you’re scouring the Norfolk countryside for artisanal produce, do make a beeline for Walsingham – a pilgrimage destination in more ways than one. Its excellent farm shop showcases the very best of North Norfolk; the butchery is exceptional, the deli is packed with local cheeses, pies and cured meats, and there is an impressive selection of produce from nearby growers. It's an ideal stop before heading for the coast.
Don't leave without: A homemade sausage roll and a generous wedge of locally made Binham blue cheese.
Middle Farm
Nestled beneath the South Downs at Firle, Middle Farm is one of those rare places that genuinely has something for everyone. Alongside its award-winning farm shop are an excellent butcher, bakery, gift shop, plant courtyard and a celebrated cider barn with one of Britain's largest collections of cider and perry. Families can also visit the animals, making it an easy full-day destination.
Don't leave without: Sussex cheese, local cider and something from the bakery.

Darts Farm, Devon
Is it a farm shop? Is it a destination food hall? Well, whichever you decide, we’re very much here for Darts Farm, which has become one of Devon's finest showcases for South West producers. Fresh fish, artisan charcuterie, cheese, wine, cookery courses and excellent restaurants make this somewhere to devote an afternoon rather than simply popping in for milk.
Don't leave without: Devon cheeses and something from the fish counter.

Windsor Farm Shop, Berkshire
Set on the edge of the Windsor Estate in converted Victorian potting sheds, Windsor Farm Shop combines royal provenance with genuinely excellent produce. Founded by Prince Philip in 2001, it champions meat reared on the Royal Estates alongside carefully chosen British artisan producers. The butchery is the real star, with Windsor beef and pork, Bagshot Park lamb, handmade sausages and seasonal game, while the deli is stacked with local cheeses, pies, breads and preserves. There's also an excellent café serving breakfast, lunch and famously good cream teas, making it an easy place to while away a couple of hours after a walk through Windsor Great Park.
Don't leave without: Windsor Estate sausages, a slice of the signature bread and butter pudding, and one of the shop's own preserves.

Run by the Westmorland Family, the shelves are filled with locally reared meat, artisan cheeses, freshly baked bread, handmade cakes and seasonal fruit and vegetables, much of it sourced from nearby farms and producers.
