When friends Ollie & Nic got on their bicycles and started delivering sourdough loaves and pastries during the pandemic, they juggled it with full time office jobs, donning cycling gear on the weekend to drop off bundles of baked goods to friends, family and neighbours in South London.

People liked what they were doing and the word spread. Butter & Crust was launched and they turned full time, delivering food bundles to thousands of customers with a constantly increasing range of postcodes.

The thinking was simple. A range of fresh artisan breakfast essentials delivered directly to doorsteps each weekend for customers to wake up to. Like the milkman, but delivered 100% by bicycle.

The bundles are delivered and left on the doorstep by bicycle between 6-9AM every Sunday morning. The company also bring positive change to the food system since bakeries and delis waste huge amounts of surplus bread and pastries every day. Butter & Crust take pre-orders so everything is baked fresh to order, meaning there is no food waste.

They rotate between many of London's best bakeries each week to give a full picture of the capital's pastry scene.

The loaves come from The Snapery Bakery and Flor Bakery (both in Bermondsey). Sourdough bagels made from Stoneground UK flour have a long fermentation and are made by Holy Ghost Micro-bakery in Columbia Road. Chew Valley milk and butter are produced from Guernsey cows.

Smoked Salmon from The Severn & Wye Smokery sits between two of the UKs most celebrated salmon-abundant rivers and provides smoked fish to the UK's top chefs. The granola is made fresh in Bermondsey by the UK's only dedicated bakery for oven-fresh, premium granola.

The apple juice is seasonally pressed from apples grown and hand picked on Townsend Farm. Monmouth Coffee uses selected beans from single farms, roasted in South East London and sourced from single farms, estates and cooperatives.

While regular weekly customers use the handy subscription order, the company also do a gift option. What could be a more perfect thought to have delivered to a friend with a new baby, or someone on their birthday.
