What We’re Wearing On Christmas Day: The Guide Editors’ Dream Outfits
From cosy knits to polished partywear, The Guide’s editors share their dream Christmas Day outfits.
Do you take Christmas Day as your cue to dress to the nines, or is it more of a cosy-jumper, slippers-on affair? Perhaps you treat it as an unofficial pyjama marathon, drifting from presents to pudding without once entertaining the idea of changing. All of these are entirely respectable choices – and, as our editors’ dream outfits reveal, whether you lean dressed up or dressed down, festive dressing should always come back to whatever makes you happiest. Here, our team share the looks they’d love to wear on the big day.

We don’t go very smart in our household on Christmas Day so my dream outfit would be this entire look from With Nothing Underneath. I would wear their Soho T-Shirt in White underneath their Devon Jumper in Oatmeal on top of their Chartwell Trousers in Khaki and I’d round it all off with my beloved new Leather Ballerinas from Arket. I’d be very happy.

I love the subtle shimmer of Beulah’s Yahvi dress for Christmas – it has a beautiful lustre, rather than a sparkle and I love the drama of the fluted cuffs. It’s the perfect festive dress that won’t date – one I’d love wearing for years to come.

Comfort is key for Christmas day in my eyes. I love these Reformation silk trousers - so soft and luxurious – and I’d pair them with a lovely cashmere knit like this Hush V-neck and a pretty necklace like this one from Ottoman Hands. I will also pop on the new boots from Flattered that I’m hoping for for Christmas to complete the look, ideally with these deliciously soft wool socks in cayenne from Toast.

A red dress is just about my favourite thing to wear all year round, and on Christmas Day it is the only colour for me. I’ll most likely be wearing a brilliantly cut Cabbages & Roses needlecord dress in a pillar box shade that I recently found on Vinted. However, if I were on the hunt for another, it would be the exceptionally Christmassy Irina Bias Cut Velvet Maxi Dress by Cefinn. Or, failing that, the Edith Dress from Kate Barton, whose neat little nehru collar and buttons that give the illusion of being double-breasted make it a total winner. A simple pair of suede boots, like these from Penelope Chilvers, would be ideal: simple, stylish and comfy. These hammered brass moon and star earrings from Etsy maker Nic Danning, meanwhile, would make me smile.
