A newcomer to the circular fashion market, The Second Row is a UK-based online resale platform that specialises in curated preloved clothing from influencers, stylists, and celebrities. Founded by Katie, a former ITV This Morning producer, the company grew out of a series of successful in-person pop-up events known as The Preloved Designer Sale, where curated wardrobes from media personalities and stylists were sold directly to consumers. These early events built a loyal audience and so Katie then decided to evolve the business into a digital platform centred on timed “flash sales.”

Second hand fashion has experienced rapid growth in recent years and sustainability is central to The Second Row’s identity. Created in response to growing concerns about fast fashion and clothing waste, the company encourages people to buy preloved items, extending the life of garments.

Broad mix of brands

A defining feature of The Second Row is its broad mix of brands, spanning both high-street labels and high-end designers. Popular contemporary brands such as Arket, COS, Other Stories, Whistles and Anthropologie are mixed with brands such as Ganni and Rixo and they sit alongside more established luxury houses like Gucci and Chanel. Shoppers can browse everything from dresses, tailoring, and knitwear to accessories such as bags and shoes.

Celebrity and influencer involvement is central to the brand’s appeal. Figures such as Rachel Stevens, Angela Scanlon, and Candice Brathwaite have all contributed pieces, drawing shoppers who want access to curated wardrobes and may follow these names on Instagram and so have seen them previously wearing the exact pieces.

Act quickly to avoid disappointment

Using The Second Row is relatively simple but requires quick action. The platform operates on a “drop” model, so sales are announced in advance by email and instagram - and go live at specific times, requiring users to act quickly due to limited stock. This creates urgency and excitement. There is also a permanent Outlet section which sells the previous unsold stock.
