Small Wonders: Brilliant Stocking Fillers For Kids And Grown-Ups
We present our edit of excellent stocking fillers for children and grown-ups, from pocket-money treats and tiny toys to beauty buys, edible luxuries and things they’ll actually use
It doesn’t matter if you’re two or 92; the Christmas stocking is, and to our minds will always be, the most thrilling part of the big day (even if, with younger ones in tow, the grand unopening may take place at 5am). And there is an art to a good Christmas stocking filler. Go too practical and it defeats the magic; too novelty and you’re just pouring your money into something destined for landfill.
Instead, aim for the happy territory in between: small but lovely things we might not quite justify buying for ourselves, mixed with sweets, games and the occasional piece of nonsense. Whether for little ones or big ones, these are the small treasures – all under £20 – we’d be delighted if Father Christmas left at the foot of the bed this year.

Stocking Fillers
What makes a good stocking filler?
The best stocking fillers are small, relatively inexpensive and just indulgent enough to feel like a treat. Think little luxuries, useful things in particularly lovely versions, edible treats, games and the odd piece of glorious nonsense.
How much should you spend on stocking fillers?
There is no set rule – and plenty of excellent stocking fillers come in under £10. Mixing a couple of more special presents with inexpensive sweets, stationery and small toys keeps both the cost and the contents varied.
What are good stocking fillers for children?
Small games, craft kits, books, stationery, charms, cuddly toys and chocolate are all reliable choices. Aim for things that can be played with or enjoyed straight away rather than novelty presents destined to be forgotten by Boxing Day.
What are good stocking fillers for adults?
Small luxuries work particularly well: hand cream, beautiful socks, food treats, games, stationery, books and useful little objects they might not think to buy for themselves.
What can I put in a Christmas stocking instead of sweets?
Try card games, books, pens, socks, bath treats, puzzles, craft kits, small toys, seeds or useful pocket-sized gadgets. A good stocking is generally more fun when not everything in it is edible.
