A dedicated SPF for the face is a relatively new concept. Two decades ago, in the nascent days of my career as a beauty journalist, the idea that SPF wasn’t just something we applied to our faces with a perfunctory pat of the same generic factor 10 we’d just rubbed into our body, was unheard of. Would it have left a white cast and clog our pores? Undoubtedly.

Yet behold, the latest slew of 2025 face-dedicated suncare is here to re-educate us and save our skin – literally. Not only does it protect up to SPF50 from UVA and UVB rays, but it has skincare benefits built in too. The feather-weight fluid texture of the new-gen SPFs doesn’t scrimp on protection but won’t leave you in a sticky mess either. Some have gone so far as to add a tint, allowing you to combine your protection, skincare and base in one savvy step this summer. Here are nine of our favourite trailblazers.

The Tinted One

Sheer, with just a hint of ‘healthy skin’ coverage, this natural looking, yet buildable tinted SPF is perfect for ‘no make-up’ make-up days.
