Fresh Face: 7 Makeup Trends Set To Define SS26
From softly blurred complexions to pastel eyes and smudged kohl liner, these are the seven makeup trends shaping the SS26 beauty mood.
The Soft-Focus Complexion
The SS26 base is all about skin that looks like skin. Instead of heavy coverage or sharply contoured finishes, makeup artists are embracing a softly diffused complexion that mimics the effect of natural light on healthy skin. Foundations and skin tints are designed to blur rather than mask, creating a luminous, almost airbrushed finish that still allows freckles and texture to peek through.
Hydrating formulas infused with skincare ingredients are key, with tinted SPFs, serum foundations and glow-enhancing primers replacing traditional full-coverage bases. The overall effect is polished but effortless.
‘Leading-Lady’ Blush
Blush takes centre stage this season. Inspired by romantic, cinematic heroines (a la Cathy in Wuthering Heights, the Margot Robbie take), the look focuses on a soft flush placed directly on the apples of the cheeks for a youthful, windswept effect.
The key is placement rather than intensity. Cream and liquid formulas blend seamlessly into the skin, giving that just-back-from-a-walk glow. Shades range from delicate rose to peachy coral, lending warmth and vitality to even the most minimal makeup look.
Blurred Lips
Sharp lip lines are quietly disappearing in favour of softer, diffused edges, dubbed the ‘cloud lips look’. This modern lip is slightly blurred, as if gently pressed with fingertip or tissue, giving colour a lived-in quality.? Lip tints, balmy stains and velvet-finish lipsticks dominate, delivering colour that feels effortless rather than overly precise. The look pairs beautifully with otherwise minimal makeup, allowing lips to add subtle depth without feeling overly done.
Pastel Eyeshadows
Pastels are enjoying a sophisticated revival for SS26. Powder blue (as seen at Chanel), pistachio green and soft lavender were all spotted on the runway, often swept across the lid in a sheer wash. Unlike the sugary shades of previous decades, the modern take is more refined. Think translucent textures, softly blended edges and paired simply with neutral skin and lips. The result is fresh, playful and surprisingly wearable for daytime.
Smudged Kohl Liner
After several seasons of minimal eye makeup, eyeliner is back with a grungier edge. Kohl pencils are smudged along the lash line and slightly diffused for a smoky, lived-in finish that feels relaxed rather than overly dramatic.
The technique works particularly well when paired with bare skin and softly brushed brows. It adds instant definition without the precision of traditional winged liner. Opt for softer browns or bronzes over harsh blacks to make the look more wearable for daytime.
Buttery Bronzed Skin
Bronzer is returning to the spotlight, but with a softer, more natural finish. The newest formulas are described by artists as ‘buttery’ or ‘suede-like’, delivering warmth without obvious shimmer or contour lines.
Applied across the high points of the face or lightly dusted along the cheekbones, the look evokes sun-kissed skin rather than sculpted Kardashian-esque glamour. Think Riviera holiday glow rather than heavy contour.
Effortless Natural Brows
After years of exaggerated brow trends, SS26 brings a welcome return to simplicity, with brows returning to their natural state. Brows are brushed upward and left largely untouched, following the natural shape of the face.
Instead of thick pomades or overly structured arches, makeup artists favour lightweight gels and fine pencils to enhance rather than redraw. The result is polished yet relaxed, perfectly in keeping with the season’s softer beauty aesthetic.
