Kate Hiscox talks about how her Instagram account evolved into a fashion blog with weekly edits on trends or clothes that have caught her eye.
Kate cherry picks items that she likes and makes them into easy to digest outfits. As Kate says, 'A lot of people say it saves them time and energy trawling through online retailers looking for something good, as I've done it for them. '
Kate whose day job is Head of TV, Warner Music UK, fills in the detail for us...
What was the inspiration for the blog?
I always liked the shopping pages in magazines, but often the clothes were not available in the shops yet, or already sold out so I decided to evolve my blog into a weekly shopping page, but also an inspiration page on how to put outfits together from pieces you already own.
When did you launch?
I started the blog in July 2016, but started the regular Sunday posts about two years ago.
What are your greatest challenges?
Fitting everything in around my full time job at Warner Music and being mum to 2 boys and 4 cats! I research the blog every evening throughout the week and put it all together on a Saturday to publish on Sundays.
What's your background?
I studied Journalism at London College of Fashion, but then fell into working in music. I did four years at a heavy metal record company and still have the tattoos to prove it! I then got a job at, was then EMI records, now Warner Music. That was twenty years ago and I'm still here. I am Head of TV Promotions. That basically means I get the artists on the TV. I work with Coldplay, Noel Gallagher, Michael Buble amongst others.
Who do you admire in business?
Vivienne Westwood, Stella McCartney, Bobbi Brown, Trish McEvoy
Please recommend a website and / or app that helps you promote or run your business
Instagram! I started Instagram before I started my blog and they run hand in hand.
Do you have a favourite business podcast?
I don't really listen to business podcasts.
What is the best piece of digital advice you've been given in regards to your showcasing/running your business online?
I don't think I've ever been given any advice, I'm just winging it!
What is your motto?
My Dad used to say 'SWATU' - 'Something Will Always Turn Up' and it usually does.
Where do you see the business going from here?
I'd like to see it grow and maybe write a proper book or have a column on a bigger site or in a magazine one day.
Have you put your company forward for an award before?
