We find out about the property consultancy that offers an alternative viewing experience for the B2B and B2C markets.

Sq. One Real Estate is a property consultancy, offering a very different viewing experience for both the B2B and B2C markets. The website is focussed on lifestyle and not static like so many property based sites are. We caught up with Jamie Gunning, a partner in the business, to find out more.

What was the inspiration for the site?
A fresh approach to mimic why we started the company. Hopefully less obviously salesy and a much more interactive experience.

When did you launch?
We launched in Q3 2018

What are your greatest challenges?
Time at the moment because we have so much exciting work on, and keeping the team lean enough to stay totally connected but also give the full range of consultant, agency and land services to our clients.

What's your background?
I qualified as a landscape architect because I wanted to do a job that allowed me to be active and not just desk bound. This led me into property lettings for John D Wood, then a more design and development focussed job at EAShaw where I worked my way up to Equity Partner. When we sold the business to CBRE in 2012 it was an opportunity to grow my learning on an international scale. Sq. One is all about taking the best parts from all the work we did, and start fresh all over again with our fabulous clients.

Who do you admire in business?
People that take a risk, are brave and work their way through to success. But must be understanding of how important their staff are to that progress and look after them. I have huge respect for Richard Branson on multiple levels, and Levinson Wood for his adventure and spirit. Too many good ones in property to name, sadly also we get the extremes at both ends!

Please recommend a website and / or app that helps you promote or run your business
Listing platforms like Rightmove and Zoopla are essential, and we are part of a very current and clever group called The London Broker right now. In terms of an app, I could not live without my CamCard app, my very own rollerdeck of business cards and client database. And it’s free!

Do you have a favourite business podcast?
Can’t wait to find the time to listen to a podcast again. The motivational podcasts are my favourites

What is the best piece of digital advice you've been given in regards to your showcasing/running your business online?
Be relevant and authentic while always being truthful to ourselves/ our journey. People will also find personal stories interesting so try not to be too shy!

What is your motto?
The harder you work the luckier we get. And always remember the people are the priority- clients/ staff and partners. My absolute favourite is : “life is not a dress rehearsal so make sure you get it right first time!”

Where do you see the business going from here?
Large enough to deliver on what we promise but never disconnected. For me I so hope we all take pride in the journey and it becomes a partnership led business throughout. Trusted advisors and client centric.

Have you put your company forward for an award before? If so, please let us know which one. This is our first so it’s such a meaningful one for us!
