We talk to the founders of the website that gives you all the information and inspiration on cooking for a healthier family.
When did you launch the site?
We launched Cookingthemhealthy.com in 2012. It started as a simple blog born from a chat between the two us about supporting immunity by boosting key foods in our children's diets. I was so surprised this information wasn't readily available and once Jo provided me with the nutrients I started creating recipes. It has evolved organically from there, and we are proud to offer our Supercharged recipes which focus on specific health needs.
What are your greatest challenges? Finding the time to fit everything in around busy family life - we have 6 young children between us
What's your background? I am a Leith’s Trained chef and senior teacher with over 12 years experience. I have taught at Leith’s and more recently at Chewton Glen, plus have enjoyed plenty of other fun and colourful catering work over the years too. Jo is a fully trained BANT registered Nutritional Therapist and sees clients as part of the NatureDoc team of practitioners, led by the wonderful Lucinda Miller.
Who do you admire in business? People that stand up for what they believe in and ultimately want to make a change for the better. We both love Dr Rangan Chatterjee for his work as an NHS GP promoting the importance of lifestyle medicine, bringing simple yet effective strategies for improving wellbeing to a wider audience. And of course the always amazing Jamie Oliver and the brilliant work he does standing up for children's health.
Please recommend a website and / or app that helps you promote or run your business or that you simply couldn't live without - Instagram.
Do you have a favourite business/interiors podcast? - we love The Parent Hood by sisters Dr Chiara Hunt and Marina Fogle for honest, engaging and professional parenting advice, and we always enjoy listening to Dr Chatterjee's Feel Better, Live More podcast. His tagline says everything, "Health has become over complicated, I aim to simplify it".
What is the best piece of digital advice you've been given in regards to your showcasing your business online? Try not to worry about the numbers of likes & followers too much, but to focus on doing what you can when you can, ensuring the content remains true to you and your brand.
What is your motto? To stay true to what you believe in, with a strong simple message.
Where do you see the business going from here? We would love to collate our recipes in a cookbook, we get many requests for one from our followers, we envisage a kind of kitchen pharmacy reference bible. We run popular workshops on our Supercharged topics such as Immune Boosting & Digestive Support and are looking forward to expanding these to focus on Female Health in the Autumn. We also provide other brands with our blended chef/nutritional expertise in the form of recipe development etc. We have some exciting plans underway for our future but I’ll stop at that…
