Founder of the unique homeware brand, Misty Minton talks about her business journey.

Casacarta came about as a result of Misty Minton identifying a gap in the market for cool, unique homeware that really stands out. Here she tells us more about the business.

Every item on the site is designed to be a statement piece and I designed items that I wanted in my own home. We have five key collections which are "Bee", "Eye", "Sun", "Leaf" and "Luna". We stick to these collections and prints on all our products. We wanted the site to be very easy to navigate with clear collections and we want our pieces to be timeless. Our distinct patterns are now synonymous with Casacarta.

What was the inspiration for the site? I created the Casacarta site after moving into a new apartment and becoming frustrated when I had a hard time finding products for the home which were not only unique but in my price range and of good quality.

When did you launch the site? The site was launched in 2016.

What are your greatest challenges? The greatest challenges as a small business are getting people to know about your site and driving traffic to it.

What's your background? I worked in property and hospitality but it was always a dream of mine to start my own business.

Who do you admire in business? I admire strong women in business, my mother is my biggest business inspiration as she is also an entrepreneur and taught me a lot from a young age. I also admire my brother who has a successful cold pressed juice company called Presscription juice as he is killing the juice game!

Please recommend a website and / or app that helps you promote or run your business or that you simply couldn't live without. I would say Instagram is the main app I use as its great for instant feedback and to keep customers in the loop about new product launches and events.

Do you have a favourite business podcast? I listen to Ted talks, The Skinny Confidential and The Girl Boss podcast.

What is the best piece of business advice you've been given? The worst thing they can say is "No".

What is your motto? "I can and I will" which is what my father told me from a very young age.

Where do you see the business going from here? I would love Casacarta to become a household name when you think of chic homeware and lifestyle accessories. The next steps are focusing more on the retail side of the business.
