Julian Sykes, founder and CEO of Givergy, the company offering a new and innovative way for people to support worthwhile causes.

Givergy.com offers money-can’t-buy experiences and incredible items, which can be won through an auction or prize draw. The site offers a new and innovative way for people to support amazing causes, as the money raised goes to charity. Founder and CEO, Julian Sykes tells us more...

What was the inspiration for the site?

We wanted to extend our fundraisers' reach beyond the traditional event space. Effectively to create online events with fantastic, eye-catching offerings that capture the imagination of a digital audience.

When did you launch the site?

We launched Givergy.com in November 2015 and since then we’ve raised over £1 million for charity and supported over 100 incredible causes! We provide auction technology at live events, and that side of the business has been running since 2009.

What are your greatest challenges?

Sourcing exceptional content and merchandising it correctly. It's out there but the digital experience is very different to the live event space.

What's your background?

Following a brief stint in the City as a traditional stockbroker, I left with the single aim to run my own business. I've been in the digital space for over fifteen years now.

Who do you admire in business?

All business owners who have built something from nothing. The sparkle to begin, perseverance to grow and sheer breadth of skills required to deliver a success make for people worthy of admiration.

Please recommend a website and / or app that helps you run your business

Grammarly, a free spelling and grammar checker is used widely by the Givergy team, as it integrates with your website.

What is the best piece of business advice you've been given?

Do one thing right, rather than many things wrong.

What is your motto?

'Go there first'. It's a management motto. You can't tell people what to do without doing it yourself first.

Where do you see the business going from here?

Givergy is a brand, as long as we stay true to our mantra 'raising more' I believe we will grow to be something very special in the Giving sector.

Where did you hear about The GWG Awards?

Through a friend.
