In the second part of Mark Frary's article on multi-generational holidays, this week the Editor of 101 Family Holidays talks about splashing the cash and checking into hotels and more.

HOTELS

Check in to a hotel and you can all relax knowing there’s someone else to make the beds, prepare breakfast, pour the drinks and even entertain the kids from time to time.

All-inclusive is the perfect choice for 3G holidays, especially if it’s for a big celebration and someone wants to splash out on a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

IKOS have been setting the standard for all-inclusive in the Med. The IKOS Dassia in Corfu sits on a perfect crescent of sandy beach and has a large number of interconnecting rooms for families or private bungalows for more seclusion. The Dine-Out programme means you can eat in local restaurants in the nearby village too.

The Caribbean is a friendly destination for multi-generational family holidays. Try Beaches Resorts in Jamaica and the Turks & Caicos, for example, are renowned for their fantastic Kids Camps, waterparks and unlimited water sports. You can book a three- or four-bedroom family suite and take your pick from nineteen gourmet restaurants.

Round Hill Hotel & Villas in Montego Bay, Jamaica regularly ranks at the top of the luxury listings for the Caribbean and they offer optional all-inclusive rates. Families love the 27 luxury villas clustered around the lush green hillside, each boasting its own private pool. The Pineapple Kids Club is outstanding.

Mark Warner has a great selection of grandparent and grandchildren friendly resorts, with prices that include water sports (with tuition), childcare, food and drink. Their new Phokaia Beach Resort in Turkey has interconnecting rooms and a fantastic water sports programme. There is also a spa for those who prefer pampering over exertion!

Club Med is another company that specialises in the provision of all-inclusive holidays that work really well for large family groups – you can choose from beach to mountain resorts across the world.

PUSH THE BOAT OUT

If Granny and Grandpa want to splash out and treat the family to something really special, check out A&K Villas’ superb choice of impressive villas in the Algarve or Sir Richard Branson’s Son Bunyola estate in Mallorca, where chefs will produce your meals.

Scott Dunn operates a number of top-notch villas in Mallorca and the South of France, all staffed with a private chef and host plus the option of a trained nanny.

And what about going on safari holiday in Africa? Stay in a family safari villa in Zambia for example and enjoy game drives and all the adrenalin activities around Victoria Falls.

A private tour of Sri Lanka with the Experience Travel Group is a great choice for families. It combines the cultural treasures, wildlife safaris and down time on the beach with family-friendly accommodation and your own private mini-van and driver will transport you throughout.

For a luxury hotel experience on an idyllic beach, Carlisle Bay in Antigua is hard to beat – and no steps to negotiate!

Much closer to home, close to Bath, Lucknam Park Hotel has nailed the luxury family hotel concept. There’s Michelin-starred dining and a casual Brasserie, a superb Equestrian Centre, a world-class spa (with mini treatments for younger guests), adventure play area, bicycles, tennis courts and even kids courses at the Cookery School.
