Your honeymoon should always be among the most memorable trips of your life – here’s 'something new' to consider if you’re planning your special trip in 2019.

The editor of 101 Honeymoons Jane Anderson picks the hottest new honeymoons for 2019.

1. Haven Riviera Cancun, Mexico

Set on the coast outside Cancun, this luxurious new adults-only all-inclusive resort is perfect for a peaceful, pampering break (without breaking the bank). Suites include some with private swim-out pools and all come with extra touches such as an aromatherapy menu to create a personalised room scent, as well as a bottle of Mezcal Blanco to toast yourselves. The Mayan ruins of the Riviera Maya are nearby, although the resort’s six restaurants, nine bars and fabulous spa will be hard to step away from!

Seven nights all-inclusive costs from £1,279 per person including flights and transfers. Book with Tropical Sky.

2. Sazak Evi, Islamlar, Turkey

The idea of skipping the big resorts for a more private honeymoon is always tempting – so if seclusion tops your list, it’s hard to beat a stylish villa. With its own indoor pool, outdoor pool and sauna, the one-bedroom Sazak Evi is perfect, a new addition to Simpson Travel’s top drawer Turkish collection. There are local restaurants in Üzümlü village, a 15-minute stroll through the pine trees, while the beach clubs of Kalkan are a 10-minute drive away on the coast.

Seven nights self-catering costs from £780 per person, including flights departing October 2019, car hire and welcome pack on arrival. Book with Simpson Travel.

3. Four Seasons Napa Valley, California

California’s vineyards are world renowned, so if you’re looking to celebrate your newlywed status in style, where better than Napa Valley? The new Four Seasons hotel, opening in mid 2019, is in the heart of a world-class vineyard, with innovative dining and spa treatments using the mineral-rich local mud. Its farmhouse chic style is ideal for some low-key romance; lounge in one of the swimming pools and gaze out to the mountains together.

Turquoise Holidays can tailormake your itinerary – for example, 13 nights costs from £2,395 per person including three nights in San Francisco, two nights each in Napa Valley, Yosemite National Park and Mammoth Lakes, one night in Death Valley and three nights in Las Vegas. Includes car hire and flights and luxury hotel accommodation.

4. Cambodia in style

From beach to forest to the fascinating temples of Angkor, a honeymoon in Cambodia is always unforgettable – with two new luxury accommodation options making it even more memorable in 2019. In the forests of the Cardamom Mountains, the luxurious tented camp of Shinta Mani Wild is set right above the water of the Tatai river. And on the pristine sands of the Koh Rong archipelago in the south, all the villas at the secluded and ultra-contemporary Alila Villas Koh Russey have their own pools.

A 12-night itinerary with Selective Asia costs from £4,849 per person based on first-class accommodation in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, a stay at Shinta Mani Wild and Alila Villas Kos Russey. Excludes international flights. All trips are tailormade.

5. African Princess, South Kotu, The Gambia

With its warm welcome, colourful local wildlife and long golden beaches, The Gambia is tempting more and more visitors, both for winter sun and for summer escapes. The new 4.5 star African Princess hotel opened in December 2018 and sits right on the sand – perfect for sunset strolls hand in hand. The swim-up rooms enjoy direct access to the hotel’s eight free-form pools. No children under 12 are allowed.

Seven nights costs from £799 per person B&B in a standard room, including flights and transfers. An upgrade to a swim-up room has a supplement of £16 per person per night. Book with The Gambia Experience.

6. Iconic South America

How about a maximoon…? Travelling through Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Argentina and Brazil, this honeymoon is easily a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. The brand new 41-day Iconic South America tour from Tucan Travel takes in the highlights of mainland South America plus a cruise to the Galapagos Islands, including Machu Picchu, the Iguazu Falls, Lake Titicaca, Rio de Janeiro, an Argentinian winery and a coffee plantation tour, as well as the unique wildlife of the Galapagos. 7. Cruise the Elaphiti Islands, Croatia

Mix a taste of adventure with some relaxation on a week-long active honeymoon in Croatia, sailing the Adriatic by catamaran for three nights before spending four nights on dreamy Šipanska Luka bay in Sipan. Explore the peaceful islands or visit the historic streets of Dubrovnik, before cycling, snorkelling and sea kayaking, as well as drinking in romantic sunsets over the waves as you visit the Elaphiti Islands, Mljet and the Pelješac Peninsula.

This new seven-night Elaphiti Islands Active Adventure costs from £825 B&B including three days sailing and some activities, excludes flights. Book with Artisan Travel.

8. South Africa safari

A twin-centre safari and beach honeymoon is one of my personal favourites. Upgrade your animal spotting at the new andBeyond Tengile Lodge in the private Sabi Sands Game Reserve in South Africa, bordering Kruger National Park with its fascinating wildlife. Opened in December 2018, the lodge – which means ‘tranquil’ in the local Tsonga language – has nine raised suites which feel as if you could be floating on the water. Follow this all-inclusive retreat with a stay at the five-star Maradiva resort in Mauritius.

11 nights costs from £6,490 per person, including four nights all-inclusive at Tengile River Lodge, seven nights half board at Maradiva Villas Resort and international flights. Book with Mahlatini.

9. Bagnaccio villa, Radda in Chianti, Tuscany

Tuscany’s rolling countryside, hilltop villages, wonderful food and spectacular historic cities make for a wonderful honeymoon mix of history and indulgence. Bagnaccio is a luxurious restored Tuscan farmhouse, new for 2019, with its own private pool. Positioned between Florence and Siena at Radda in Chianti, there are four bedrooms and lots of space to spread out in – ideal if you’re honeymooning with family. Surrounded by vineyards and forests, gaze out from the infinity pool or sip a glass of local wine on the veranda.

Seven nights self-catering cost from £3,791. Excludes flights. Book with To Tuscany.

10. Hodges Bay Resort & Spa, Antigua

This chic contemporary resort opened in December 2018 and is set on one of Antigua’s gorgeous secluded beaches on the island’s north coast. If you’re splashing out (it is your honeymoon!), the beachfront villas have a dedicated concierge and butler along with their wonderful ocean views across Hodges Bay, plus the option of a private chef. With three restaurants and five bars, along with a rooftop chill-out lounge and adults-only pool, you’ll feel spoiled regardless.

Seven nights in a Junior Suite with pool or garden view costs from £2,749 per person B&B including flights. There is an optional all-inclusive supplement of £1,654 per person. Book with Classic Collection.
