Lance Forman, owner of salmon smokery, H. Forman & Son, shares his favourite sites.

Lance Forman is the owner of salmon smokery H. Forman & Son, located 100 metres from the London 2012 Olympic Park. Famous for his recent battle over a compulsory purchase order to make way for the stadium, it’s easy to forget that Lance is not only head of a 107 year old fine food business but also the founder of a string of new ventures during the last 10 years. The Olympics will bring thousands of guests including competing athletes and even a former President of the USA to his Forman’s Fish Island event and party venue to enjoy a complete dining experience with food, art, live music from Ronnie Scott’s All Stars and a pop-up ‘Riviera’ beach bar by celebrity hangout Maddox Club. The Forman family of companies also includes a quality British food home delivery service, a fine dining restaurant and an art gallery.

Identifying a growing trend for speciality British food, Lance founded Forman & Field ten years ago to give private customers the chance to buy the quality of food Forman’s had been supplying to the restaurant trade for generations. It is now firmly established as the go-to supplier for the most delicious food from Britain’s best producers delivered to your home. Amidst the turbulence and disruption of Forman’s relocation another opportunity presented itself. Incredible proximity to the stadium and the chance to design from scratch gave Lance inspiration to build not just a smokery but also Forman’s Fish Island to host events from smokery tours and tastings through to international conferences, weddings and VIP parties. Forman’s Restaurant was added where the best fish from the smokery is served alongside modern British food in a riverside room overlooking that stadium. Most recently Lance opened Forman’s Smokehouse Gallery to provide an exhibition space for the many artists in the local area. A celebration of the Muhammad Ali at 70 ‘In the Rings with Ali’ will run during the Olympics as part of Forman’s complete Olympics package.

Jazz FM - I’m a huge jazz fan and listening online at my desk has got me through some late nights and early mornings recently.

Ronnie Scott’s - The home of London jazz. We have the Ronnie Scott’s All Stars band at Forman’s for the Olympics which I can’t wait to see.

Maddox Club - Fred Moss who created Maddox Club is a true legend of London nightlife. He was behind China White and Movida and he’ll be bringing Maddox Club to Forman’s as a pop-up beach bar during the Olympics.

British Handball - I knew nothing about handball until the chance came up to sponsor one of the women’s team members, Louise Jukes. We’re no Coca-Cola so it’s a modest investment but a big help to Louise supporting her through training and I now feel like I have a real personal connection to the sport. I also get some tickets to the Games so will there jumping up and down for team GB! It’s brilliant to watch live.

Inside the Games - I can hardly imagine life without the Olympics on our doorstep and throughout the build-up Inside the Games has been my first port of call for Olympic news.

Admirable Crichton - Undeniably one of the most creative and brilliant caterers going. We’ve supplied them with our smoked salmon for many years; I’ve used them for private parties myself and will be working with them at Forman’s Fish Island this summer.
