The joint Managing Director of Jude’s Ice Cream talks about working with Sipsmith Gin and being inspired by Ottolenghi's Desert Island Discs.

Chow Mezger, a former professional rugby player now works in ice cream. What a job! Somebody’s got to do it. A Durham and Oxford graduate, Chow joined the family business when in its infancy and now leads the Jude’s Ice Cream product development team. He is joint managing director and son of Jude. Chow and his brother Alex have worked hard to ensure that Jude’s is firmly at the forefront of food innovation and leading the way with on trend flavours. Jude’s was first to market with a Salted Caramel flavour, and last summer launched Jude’s Black Coconut, the UK’s first black ice cream. Jude’s has supermarket listings in Waitrose, Ocado and Sainsbury’s.

My favourite website… YouTube - I spend less time than I should doing Pilates videos, and more time than I should watching sports highlights.

My favourite app… TFL Santander Cycles app - It still feels magical that with a few touches of a screen I can be riding around London. It's fast and environmentally kind, but most of all fun.

My favourite blog… Jollie Socks -The idea behind this company is pretty niche (selling socks to help the homeless)… but they have a great mission and their blog champions other brands with similar socially conscious outlooks.

My internet heroes... Brian Acton and Jan Koum who invented WhatsApp - I love our family WhatsApp group for sharing life with those who are important to me, but not geographically close. I find this is one of the few apps that deepens existing relationships, rather than extends my network further and thinner.

My favourite podcasts... I’m a big fan of Desert Island Discs and listen to old episodes in the car. I recently enjoyed the interview with Yotam Ottolenghi. I love his story and recipes and we even served some of his salads at our wedding.

My most recent buy online… Some winter boots that make for dry and great looking feet. It’s a double win!

Book just downloaded/ read… ‘On Becoming Babywise: Giving Your Infant the Gift of Nighttime Sleep’ - By Gary Ezzo and Robert Bucknam. We are still desperately hoping our little girl will accept this gift!

Favourite tweeter… I use Twitter as a newsfeed rather than follow individuals. It can be an amazing tool for collating diverse opinions and accounts of the news.

Favourite Instagrammer… Well Kneaded Food - This social enterprise is changing the world with pizza and their Instagram feed has an infectious joy.

Social media allowed me to meet… Clerkenwell Boy EC1 who we collaborated with on our Honey & Toasted Almond Ice Cream for #CookForSyria.

Most worthwhile newsletter subscribed to… Finlay London - Their sunglasses are classy and their newsletters are beautifully crafted and include great city guides. They are always a welcome prompt to book the next holiday.

Pet hate about life online… The struggle to turn off the phone. Having said that, a recent success was introducing an analogue alarm clock at home. Yes!

Stand out online memory… When we launched our Gin & Tonic Ice Cream with Sipsmith. We seemed to be featured on every foodie website overnight. It was a big high for us and taught us a lesson. If you create something worth sharing, people will share it.
