Harry Clarke, co-founder of POPS, talks about making sophisticated popsicles using natural ingredients.

POPS was founded in 2014 by two school friends, James Rae and Harry Clarke, who spotted a market for premium and sophisticated ice lollies. It quickly gained a stellar line up of fans, including the likes of Miley Cyrus, Bella Hadid, Jack Whitehall, Idris Elba, Karlie Kloss and even HRH The Duke of York. Made in Britain using natural ingredients and low in calories, POPS are a delicious conversation starter for the summer festivals and garden party season. The new launches join a lineup that already includes the phenomenally successful Classic Champagne, Bellini, Moscow Mule and Strawberry & Mint. Harry tells us more...

We came up with the idea when… When we were on holiday in the Balearics. It was here where James and I went to a number of events and had the idea to combine a glass champagne in a delicious, refreshing, frozen form.

The biggest challenge is… Education. Our products are innovative, new to market and educating the consumer on quality and cost is always a challenge we address. This is being aided by recent competition and demand in our sector.

The average day is spent… Waking up and heading to our new centralised warehouse/office in Wandsworth. This is the nucleus of the business and where our team is based. After clearing out my emails from the night before, I like to focus my time on business development and sales so we are always looking at new opportunities and how to maximise our presence in existing retail accounts.

The team consists of... James who is my business partner who is an old school of mine, we have been great friends for 12 years. Tom Lorimer and Silvia Canestrelli have been imperative to the growth of our business and have been with us since we launched in 2014. Silvia is our wonderful head chef who creates our recipes and manages production and Tom is our sales director. More recently we have taken on Lucy Maitland and Bea Reave Tucker who have both just graduated from university and are doing a great job in sales, marketing and events.

I am where I am today because of… We have been 150% committed to our concept and we have stayed true to our brand values of creating delicious, natural and the most premium ice popsicles on the market.

The best advice I've been given... A career is a marathon not a sprint.

In five years I’d like to be… If I can still be having as much fun as I am now, I’d like to be at POPS

The thing no one ever tells you about running your own business online... I think there can be a common misconception that if you are ‘your own boss’ you have lots of free time and can take time off whenever you want. This is definitely not the case!

Our biggest mistake and what it taught us… Not having full visibility on our finances in the early stages

The most rewarding experience we’ve had to date… Getting positive feedback from our customers and seeing their faces light up when they have a POPS!
