Lucas De Pasquale from the new free social network talks about his business journey.

A few years ago, Lucas De Pasquale wasn’t interested in phone apps, social networks or technology for that matter. Today, the 31-year-old is the founder of Konekto, the new free social network that enables anyone anywhere on the planet to communicate with others in their mother tongue. It has been a steep learning curve.

Konekto is now available on the Apple and Google Play stores in 16 languages, and has over 5,000 users. Konekto was recognised as a Young Innovative Enterprise by the French state and has been chosen as one of the French exhibitors at CES 2019 as well as the French Tech Tour in Brazil in 2018. ‘Before creating Konekto, I was a Project Manager at a construction company. I studied building and construction at university,’ says Lucas. Find out about his business journey as an entrepreneur.

I came up with the idea when… during a trip to Mexico in August 2015. As a French native speaker, I wanted to find French people I could speak to there. What a headache this proved!

The biggest challenge is… raising awareness of Konekto all over the world.

The average day is… full of meetings. The day begins with a morning meeting with our production teams (where are we at? Is everything going well? Any technical problems?) After that, there will be another meeting with our project manager on ongoing work, followed by other various meetings.

The team consists of... a network administrator, two IT developers, a project manager and me, the company founder.

Our/my favourite quote… ‘Become the person that you want to be.’

I am where I am today because of… leaving everything and following my heart. A cliché, but it’s true! When I came up with the idea of creating a mobile app, I was still a Project Manager. I thought to myself, there are so many people who must’ve encountered the same problem as me during their travels, there’s got to be a solution! So, I left everything I knew to create the app.

The best advice I've been given... Never give up and believe in your dreams.

The websites I most frequently use are... social networks.

Our biggest mistake and what it taught us… After launching our first version of the app, we learnt that you can’t rush making an app and that you’ve really got to listen to users.

In five years I’d like… Konekto to be one of the biggest social networks in the world.
