What was the inspiration behind the website?
Box of Hugs was founded by Lucy, Anna and Sophie. We are three sisters who in 2010 received the difficult news that our mother had a very large brain tumour. During this time we had friends and family wanting to send cards and gifts to hospital but were unsure what to send other than flowers. There was also a period where two of our sisters were recovering from operations at roughly the same time. As a close family we clubbed together for each of these occasions and filled a box with treats to help cheer each of them up during their recovery. We realised how lovely it was to receive a surprise package in the post and how much it meant to them and the Box of Hugs concept was born (probably over a glass of wine or two).

When did you launch the site?
Middle of 2017.

What are your greatest challenges?
We are all mums of young children and two of us had newborns last year! We have so many ideas and ambitions for the business it’s often a challenge trying to fit everything in around our families (and nap times). We are learning the art of planning and prioritising and not getting too carried away with the fun stuff.

Please recommend a website and / or app that helps you promote your site or that you simply couldn't live without
Google Analytics is fundamental to our business. We can track, segment, gain insight and improve through the knowledge we gain through Analytics. The app is so addictive - we are constantly tapping to see how many customers are online right now and seeing sales as they come in and where they are coming from. Oh and Shopify of course!

What is the best piece of digital advice you've been given in regards to your showcasing/running your business online?
The digital world is changing daily so you can’t rest on your laurels...you need to constantly be trying new things and testing new markets. Also the customer has to be central to your decision making and this involves knowing who your customers are and listening to them.

What is your motto?
"The only way to do great work is to love what you do" - Steve Jobs. And we really love what we do and what we offer.
