One up from prints on the walls, how about these freestanding wooden cutouts of your child’s silhouette by Portraits by Mint.
Before having her own children, Mint was a well-respected documentary portrait photographer. Her work has been exhibited all over the world, from The South African National Gallery, to The Nobel Peace Centre and her pictures have been published in Publications such as The Sunday Times Magazine, Marie Claire, and The Guardian. But since starting a family, and settling back down in London, she now focuses her lens in a very different, much more romantic way. Inspired by a much-loved cutout portrait of her grandfather from the Twenties, she photographs and paints her own timeless creations that she hopes will survive for an equally long time on other family’s chimney pieces.
Take your child to Mint’s studio in Chelsea, London SW3, along with a selection of favourite and special outfits, and toys. Mint photographs the child in lots of poses, gives you the results, and asks you to choose your favourite image to be turned into the final piece. When there are pets involved, she is, of course, very happy to travel to you.
Mint also offers flat silhouettes printed onto high quality fine art paper. Choose from a traditional oval miniature to a life-size fine art print. Also on offer are Christmas card shoots, Children’s Thank You cards (personalised with their silhouette), formal family shoots at home. ‘I really believe everyone can get marvellous action shots of their children themselves on their phones… but not beautiful, dignified, elegant posed set-pieces,’ she says. Mint likes to take photos of children where they spend their time, be it in an extraordinary museum, a parent’s workplace or their home. She also does formal family portraiture encouraging all members to dress up in fancy dress and inviting the pet to join in.
