Is it just us or is Natalie Massenet now working for a Net-a-Porter rival?

Dame Natalie Massenet took to Instagram to announce her next fashion power move as she joins , Farfetch the luxury shopping site deemed a rival to Net-a-Porter.

Massenet, who is the founder of Net-a-Porter and chairwoman of the British Fashion Council, is no stranger to controversy. The entrepreneur shocked the fashion industry when she resigned from Net-a-Porter in 2015 ahead of its merger with Italian e-commerce company YOOX. When she sold her stake, it is thought she made a personal fortune of around $170 million. Now, she has joined Farfetch, an influential rival to Net-a-Porter in the online luxury market.

The former fashion editor will work alongside José Neves, CEO, Founder and co-chairman of FarFetch. He describes Farfetch as the next step on from Amazon and says, ‘Natalie was one of my major inspirations back in 2008 when I was launching Farfetch so it’s amazing to have her on board now.’

Of her new venture, Natalie says, ‘One of the things I want to do, through my links with all the designers and brands, is introduce more of them to Farfetch. It already has an incredible roster but there is always more talent. What I love about Farfetch is that it doesn’t hold any inventory (stock). If you think about all the most modern businesses today, they don’t hold stock either – Uber, Deliveroo – they’re all platforms. I’m a great admire of the way José has innovated.’

It’s thrilling times for the luxury shopping industry. Farfetch grew by over 70% in 2016, has 200 designers on board who sell straight to the customer in 190 countries.
