14 Beautiful Advent Calendars

From the traditional to the inventive, these are the little doors we hope to be opening this advent.

Christmas is a time festooned with ritual and tradition, the first of which comes in the merry form of the advent calendar. And no matter whether, to misquote the festive standard crooned so memorably by Frank Sinatra, you’re a kid of one or 92, opening the little doors will always be a thrill. So while we, of course, advocate buying them chiefly with small folk in mind, we simultaneously counsel: don’t knock reintroducing this childhood tradition to your life, even though you are so old and wise. We attest that it remains an enchanting daily ceremony, whether you plump for the chocolate variety; a traditional Victorian style; a reusable calendar to be stocked year-upon-year; or even a candle to mark off the days. Advent is almost upon us once more, and in these strangest of time, such comforting traditions feel more magical than ever.
