Ten Best Beauty Advent Calendars for 2019

The countdown to the launch of this year’s crop of beauty advent calendars is over. We round up our most wanted.

Sharpen your elbows: this week many big beauty brands launch their advent calendars and they tend to sell out in a flash. Beautifully packaged, with a mini treat each day to unwrap they are the perfect gift for beauty junkies and often include limited-edition treats and huge discounts on the value of the contents. From luxury fragrance to plastic-free gifting, here are some of our favourites this year.

Diptyque, £320

For any fragrance connoisseur, the Diptyque advent calendar is surely the Holy Grail. Aptly named the ‘Door to Happiness’, the beautiful trousseau is adorned in the Parisian house’s iconic style. Each drawer opens to reveal mini candles, eau de parfums and perfume oils in their bestselling fragrances. Perfect for illuminating mantelpieces and fragrancing your winter wardrobe this season. Available to pre-order.

Cowshed, £130

As beautiful outside as it is inside, the natural beauty brand, Cowshed has collaborated with botanical artist, Katie Scott on a re-usable advent calendar. Each of the mini re-fillable drawers includes a best-loved Cowshed product – candles, haircare, skincare, make-up - all made in England from essential oils, botanical extracts and ‘wild-crafted’ ingredients. Everything is suitable for vegans, too, making this perfect for the eco-conscious beauty lover this year.

Liberty, £215

The 2018 Liberty beauty advent calendar was the most successful and fastest-selling product in its 145-year history. Launching on 16 October, this year’s calendar retails for £215 and contains over £600 worth of goodies, all from the store’s beauty hall. There’s been no skimping on size either; for the 2019 incarnation, 18 of the 25 drawers contain full-size products from the likes of Le Labo, Nars, Aromatherapy Associates, Dermalogica and Votary. There’s also a smattering of exclusives behind the beautiful Liberty print doors, including limited-edition skincare from Omorovicza and an exclusive scent from Vihlelm Parfumerie, called Peony Couture.

Space NK, £195

‘The Beauty Anthology’ from Space NK is, as you’d expect from the iconic beauty apothecary, a 24-day journey of discovery into some of the world’s best skincare and make-up brands. Inspired by a beautiful, fairy-tale tome, the calendar is divided into four chapters to see you through the festive season: Pre-Party, Night-Out, Morning After and Everyday. Brands include Drunk Elephant, Charlotte Tilbury and Olaplex. Worth over £550, this is one fairy-tale with a very happy ending.

M&S, price tbc

M&S Beauty Hall is a great mix of the well-known and niche, global beauty brands, worth over £300. Its 2019 advent calendar is an assortment of beauty and make-up in a beautiful star jigsaw box that would look beautiful on any dressing table. Brands include REN, This Works, Stila, Aveda and Emma Hardie; in other words, a great collection of make-up for the party season, along with skincare and haircare. Available from 31 Oct.

Body Shop, £45

The perfect buy for beauty-loving teens who have outgrown the cartoon chocolate variety, this fun illustrated townhouse calendar contains miniature bath and body products behind each door and window. Expect everything from shower gels to body butters, in some of the Body Shop’s bestselling fragrances, as well as some special-edition seasonal ranges.

Kiehl’s x Janine Rewell, £125

Kiehl’s has collaborated with Finnish illustrator, Janine Rewell to create a 12-day countdown to Christmas, rather than the conventional 24. What it lacks in days, it makes up for in quality. The calendar itself is a reusable fabric hanging toiletry bag; inside each illustrated pocket is one of the brand’s best-selling skincare products – Crème de Corps, Midnight Recovery Concentrate, Amino Acid Shampoo; all the favourites are in there. A great uni-sex option that would be great for those travelling over the festive period.

Net A Porter, £225

NET A PORTER’s 2018 beauty advent calendar was an instant sell-out. This year it is back and bigger than ever, with a whopping £780 of product within its chic monochrome drawers, all hand-picked by the expert beauty team. L’Occitane, £89

The deluxe, festive calendar from French brand, L’Occitane is a feat of beauty engineering. It consists of two rotating towers that open up to reveal hidden drawers filled with 24 of its premium fragrance, skincare and bodycare products. Besides the pampering gifts, on each step of the 24-day journey you will discover the ‘Tree of Life’ story, with each drawer containing a tip on how to nurture nature. A beautiful, thoughtful gift for Christmas.

Penhaligons, £350

Perhaps the ultimate in decadence, Penhaligons has spared no expense in its luxury ‘Fragrant Countdown to Christmas’ calendar. The traditional, Victorian Christmas-inspired calendar, complete with the main man himself atop his sleigh, comes in a golden postal-style box. Open up the front to reveal a stack of mini parcels, each one containing lotions, fragrances, balms and candles from the heritage British perfumiers.
