The hunt for the most exciting contemporary artist just begun, and it’s online.

Who is the most exciting contemporary artist from around the world? The hunt has just begun, and it’s online. The general public will decide the winner. As part of the Rise Art Prize, this brand new arts award, the People’s Choice Award, which is hosted by the online art gallery Rise Art, hopes to inspire Brits to reconnect with art.

The launch follows new research that found almost a third (31%) of Brits feel disconnected with the arts, with a further fifth (20%) claiming that art is completely inaccessible to them. The survey of 2,000 British adults found 1 in 10 (13%) feel intimidated walking into an art gallery, with 1 in 6 having never visited an art gallery in their life.

Online gallery Rise Art, known for its expertly curated selection of global artists, helps users easily discover and own extraordinary contemporary art by the latest up-and-coming artist to established artists. The Rise Art team passionately believes that great art is for everybody.

While the Turner Prize is judged solely by industry figures, the Rise Art People’s Choice Award is in the hands of the general public. Members of the public - yes, that’s you – are now invited to vote for your favourite artist, from a list of 25 finalists, who have already been whittled down from 2,300 entries. Judges, who will Rise Art Prize Global Artist of the Year, include such luminaries as Gavin Turk, David Bailey, Fiona Banner and Harland Miller, and creative entrepreneur Oliver Proudlock is official ambassador for the People’s Choice Award. Speaking on the launch of the Rise Art Prize People’s Choice, founder of Rise Art, Scott Phillips comments: "We’re thrilled to be working with Ollie [Proudlock] on such a crucial element of the Rise Art Prize. We’re working together to rally votes and inspire involvement in art. Our recent research shows that many people still feel that art is inaccessible to them, and feel disconnected from the arts. We’re hoping to change that by giving power to the people in a way never seen before from a global competition such as The Rise Art Prize."

Voting for the general public opens on 22 January and runs until 5 February. The winner will be announced on 8 February and will receive mentorship from industry experts and marketing opportunities through Rise Art. What are you waiting for?
