Mostly we learn about new apps or sites via recommendations from friends; never overestimate the power of peer-to-peer influence.

This tip off came from a childhood friend of mine, ’For good, well priced wine, create an account with FromVineyardsDirect. Their newsletter is the only business mailer I tend to open.’
FromVineyardsDirect Newsletter

FromVineyardsDirect is not the slickest online wine offering. Far from it, in fact; the site is not particularly user-friendly or intuitive and has an archaic payment system. If it's seamless wine merchants you’re after, scroll on by to Berry Brothers, Laithwaite’s, Naked, Virgin and Ten Green Bottles, all of which are brilliant.

But, and this is a big ‘but’ in my camp, FromVineyardsDirect is a special more personal offering. It is the brainchild of David Campbell, publisher of the Guide Hachette des Vins and Esme Johnstone, co-founder of Majestic Wine. With FromVineyardsDirect, users trust their recommendations, their fantastically low prices and their personal newsletter. They offer a small range of delicious drinking wines, principally from France, Italy and Spain, imported direct from the growers and delivered to your door at prices well below traditional merchants. If it’s good enough for our friends, it’s good enough for us. Clink clink.
