There are too many blogs about food, so we've picked some of our favourites.

Food bloggers are easy to spot (they’re the ones taking pictures of their dinner) and increasingly common. Of course, some food blogs make better reading and look prettier than others, which is why we’ve taken the time to pick out some of our favourites. These bloggers know their nosh offering insights on the great places to eat, food markets to visit, cookery books to buy, recipes to enjoy and much more besides.

CANNELLE ET VANILLE

Cannelle et Vanille has been named in a variety of best food blog lists, but with its incredible photography and delicious recipes, which focus on naturally gluten free small plates and sweet treats, we couldn’t resist mentioning it too. Written by Aran Goyoaga, a Basque pastry chef living in the US, it enjoys a huge following of loyal fans and really sets the bar when it comes to food blogging. Watch out for the Cannelle et Vanille cookbook, which will be published by Little, Brown and Company in Autumn 2012.

Rosie Lovell runs a much-loved deli in Briton market, where she hosts a Thursday-night Supper Club while providing homely fare to everyone from Basement Jaxx and Toddla T to south London hipsters and Joe, the local prophet. Her writing combines delicious, comforting recipes with forays into London’s vibrant music scene and makes a refreshing read. She is currently working on her second book, a follow-up to the hugely successful Spooning with Rosie.

We love this charming blog, written by Gloria Nicol, who makes the most of seasonal herbs, fruit and vegetables while teaching her readers how to make such quintessentially English delights such as candied angelica, orange marmalade and rhubarb ketchup. She really makes the most of everything at her fingertips, producing delicious recipes that are easy to follow. Her book, 100 Jams, Jellies, Preserves and Pickles, is a kitchen shelf essential!

David Lebovitz

A professional cook and baker turned professional writer, David Lebovitz has a turn of phrase that compels you to read on. Never mind the fact that he lives in Paris, where food has been turned into and is treated like an art form. His blog combines amusing and insightful posts about his food life in Paris as well as tongue-tingling recipes such as Expresso Granita Affogato (oh yes) and Herbed Ricotta Tarte.

Written from a tiny New York kitchen, Smitten Kitchen is the blog of Deb Perelman, who combines an approachable style (filled with useful tips) with some top quality photography. This is a fun blog that shares Deb’s experiments, successes and failures in the kitchen – from hamantashchen (three-cornered filled cookies) and batter bread to wholewheat goldfish crackers (because her toddler doesn’t like cheese) and baked potato soup.

This blog by Chicago-based Tim Mazurek is rightfully beginning to gain recognition on the food blog circuit. Lots of great photos accompany a fabulous array of recipes, both invented and repeated (with full credit, of course) as well as posts on the best foodie hangouts in Chicago. We’ve got our eye on the Raspberrry Breakfast Bars for a get-up-and-go treat.

One of the most popular food blogs out there, Chocolate and Zucchini is written by Clotilde Dusoulier, a 31-year-old Parisian woman. The poster-girl for the ‘writing a blog, getting a book deal and quitting the day job to become a full-time food writer’ day dream that so many of us secretly harbour, Dusoulier’s success is backed up a genuine love of food and talent for cooking. Her recipes – from Kumquat and Pinenut Lamb Stew with Little Polenta Cake to Chilled Pea Pod Soup – are simply dreamy.

EAT LIKE A GIRL

Eat Like a Girl is written by an Irish ex-pat, Niamh Shields, who lives and works in London. She's just one in a long line of food bloggers whose snappy writing and hungry stomach have earned her a book deal. As well as recipes, she advises on the best places to eat and the most vibrant food markets to visit. For a while, she ran a market stall in Covent Garden, selling the dishes she wrote about. Her book, Comfort and Spice, will be published by Quadrille later this year.
