You can rely on gorgeous gardener Charlie McCormick for posts to cheer the soul.

Some of our Instagram heroes have made us laugh. A few have supplied much-needed practical ideas or food inspiration. Others have been incredibly brave. And then there are those whose very existence peps us up immeasurably by dint of the sheer beauty of their grid.

Charlie McCormick@mccormickcharlie – leads the charge in that latter camp, delighting us with every achingly exquisite little square he puts up. A brilliant new voice in British gardening (he writes variously for Times, The Sunday Times, House & Garden and Pleasure Garden Magazine), it helps that Charlie’s green-fingered expertise are exercised in both the resplendent old parsonage in Dorset that he shares with his partner, design virtuoso Ben Pentreath, and at their so-beautiful-it-almost-hurts-to-look Scottish bothy.

We could lose hours of our lives scrolling through these breath-taking images, which detail Charlie’s beautiful life up and down the country, tending bumper crops of dahlias here, baking ridiculously lovely-looking cakes there, scampering with his dogs and gathering bounty to cook with from his garden. In different hands, it could spill over to smug, but enough humour shines through these gorgeous pictures that it never really comes in to play.

This is a feed that feels contagious; indeed following Charlies makes us the more appreciative the seasons, as we cheer to spy him holding buckets of tulips and revelling in the first delicate daffodils of spring right though to harvesting the last dahlias of autumn and sitting on surely prize-winningly mammoth pumpkins.

And then, there are all the design questions we have, such as what the exact shade of yellow his kitchen is, and whether we could pull off a mini homage to the bothy at the bottom of our garden, complete with rust-coloured corrugated iron roof and little yellow painted windows reminiscent of Derek Jarman’s Prospect cottage, only cosier.
