Sebastian Kuhnert talks about Little Traders, the app where you can trade on the Stock Exchange without using real money.

Sebastian Kuhnert, CEO of Tradimo, is on a mission to make the financial markets accessible to everyone. Having educated over three million people with free courses about all aspects of the financial markets via the company’s online trading school,, Sebastian and his team have taken the business one step further this week. They have launched a free game on the App Store called Little Traders to give people the chance to trade on the Stock Exchange without using real money.

In a fun and engaging way, Little Traders taps into the latest trend of education through gamification. Set in a 1920s Great Gatsby retro pixel environment, Little Traders gives players trading and investment missions and enables them to unlock new features if they perform these missions successfully. The quests involve short investing lessons to teach people about how the stock market works. And if they need help along the way, they can link to the Tradimo website to learn more about day trading or long-term investing – all for free.

I came up with the idea when... I was working for, the largest professional online school for playing poker in a strategic, game-theory-based way, and we wanted to build a central education space for financial topics. The idea for our mobile game, Little Traders, then came when we saw how many people struggled to relate to the financial markets at all.

The biggest challenge is... how niche financial planning, saving, investing and trading have become. Based on their impact on people's lives, they should be mass market topics.

The average day is spent... interacting with users, partners and media, development and operations in our five languages: English, German, Russian, Arabic and Chinese.

The team consists of... awesome developers, hard-working community and operations managers, our superb video producer, lots of other helpers that jump in and out of projects and myself.

My favourite quote... 'You just think lovely wonderful thoughts and they lift you up in the air.' Peter Pan

I am where I am today because of... great people, hard work and a tiny bit of craziness.

I am who I am because of... My parents, teachers, friends, books, movies, games and thoughts which have all influenced my past; and because I focus on the present with all its opportunities as well as the future with all its dreams.

The best advice I've been given... is from my Dad. Create value for others and focus on excellence in one area while getting rid of limiting factors.

In five years I’d like to be... offering virtual reality (VR) based education with Tradimo and Little Traders. Gaming and education will merge and this week we’ve made the first step towards being part of this movement.

The thing no one ever tells you about running your own business online... is that even though it's online and digital, it's not easy to measure everything and tell correlation apart from causality.

Our biggest mistake and what it taught us... was to hold on too long to outdated technology and accept a group company structure that wasn't conducive to success. It taught us to make technology ownership a core part of our team structure and product.

The most rewarding experience we’ve had to date... was whenever we've asked our users for testimonials, the sheer amount of gratitude was unexpected. It’s also been amazing to see our Little Traders launch this week in the App Store because while we expected the game to be received well, we didn't expect it to resonate that well with so many people who are all talking extremely positively about their game experience and the mission we're on.
