We talk to Maks of #tagvenue, the company building a search engine that helps customers discover and book the perfect space for their events.
We came up with the idea when… Experiencing the hassle of venue hire as customers. There are online platforms that help you discover one-of-a-kind places to stay or match you with the perfect life partner, but you still need to use a telephone and a directory to find a venue for a party or business meet-up. This doesn’t make sense to millennials, which is why at #tagvenue we’re working to transform venue finding, making it quicker and easier to find the perfect event space.
The biggest challenge is… Prioritising IT development and growth because there are so many great things we want to build to help our customers.
The average day is spent… Trying to grow our business fast. This is our primary focus.
The team consists of... Many talented rock stars from all across the world. Having people from the UK, Australia, Latvia, Belarus, Poland, Guatemala and Spain makes for a really dynamic and fun work environment.
My favourite quote… “Business opportunities are like buses, there’s always another one coming” – Richard Branson.
I am where I am today because of… All the events in my life that shaped my personality and helped me grow.
I am who I am because of... The peer group effect. Everyone is influenced and inspired by the ten closest people in their life. Surrounding yourself with great people who challenge you to be better is essential.
The best advice I've been given… When starting a business, spend as much time as you can with other entrepreneurs and inspirational people. Upgrade your peer group. In London this is easy, but even if you live in a remote place there are many great entrepreneurs with authentic YouTube channels to learn from. This also counts.
In five years I’d like to be… Across many markets with a fully scalable product and adding great value to the venue industry.
The thing no one ever tells you about running your own business online… It’s an amazing personal growth experience – personal growth comes first and the business growth follows.
Our biggest mistake and what it taught us… Trying to be too perfect, especially in the beginning. We learnt that delivering our product to market quickly was a lot more important than getting every tiny detail right.
The most rewarding experience we’ve had to date… Building a start-up from scratch and seeing our vision come to life. These rollercoaster early days have challenged Artur and I both professionally and personally, making us keen to keep pushing ourselves and growing #tagvenue.
