QualityTime

Richard Sah, President and Co-Founder of ZeroDesktop, tells us about the QualityTime app.

I came up with the idea when...

We developed our first app to help parents manage their kids’ mobile device usage. As a father of three and working for a star-up, I am constantly getting distracted with my phone while trying to spend some precious quality time with my kids. I need this myself to help keep me honest. My wife asked me to do it!

The biggest challenge is...

Crossing the chasm to hit a critical mass and to reach a global audience. We now have parents in over 100+ countries using our app, as we tackle a real addiction problem. We hope to do the same thing with this new QualityTime app, to address the core issues people face in this hyperconnectivity era.

The average day is spent...

Problem solving, working with developers, dreaming up big ideas and breaking them down into pieces that we can execute. We have weekly ping pong tournament among colleagues to help us decompress!

The team consists of...

Developers and technology lovers. Some of us wear multiple hats in sales, marketing and customer support. Some of us are industry veterans with experiences from big companies. Some of us have always been working in startups. Half of our team is based in Silicon Valley and half in Europe.

My toughest interview question...

Hmm, which wrong decision was worth the mistake of making?

My favourite quote...

“Do. Or do not. There is no try.” by Yoda, Star Wars (The Empire Strikes Back)

I am where I am today because of...

A series of amazing coincidences and circumstance, wanting to try new things, and loving what I do.

I am who I am because of...

How life experiences have shaped me, and a supportive family!

The best advice I've been given...

That’s a tough one, I’ve been given many. Have no regrets.

In five years I’d like to be...

Still involved in exciting technology that helps with everyday life, and dreaming up the next big idea.

The thing no one ever tells you about running your own business...

There is no actual end, you keep evolving.

Our biggest mistake and what it taught us...

Getting distracted with side projects. Stay extremely focused, dream big but start small and do it really well before moving on to the next step.

The most rewarding experience we’ve had to date...

When a parent tells me, hey I need that app! DinnerTime Plus is positively impacting so many parents around the world. We have received lots of positive feedback. We hope we can do the same with QualityTime.
