We catch up with Natasha Pilbrow of LeSalon, the on-demand nail service that brings the polish of a professional salon to your home.

LeSalon launched in June and is an on-demand nail service that brings the polish of a professional nail salon to your home. Benefiting women on both ends of the nail polish pot, it presents a flexible working platform for nail therapists and gives busy women the chance to book appointments on their own terms. The British beauty platform is designed to put time back in women’s hands and lets busy women take control of ‘me time’. We talk to co-founder Natasha Pilbrow to find out more...

The biggest challenge is… There are new and exciting challenges every day. Managing supply and demand is tricky as we continue to grow we are constantly on the look for talented professionals to work with but we also need to ensure we have enough clients to fill their schedule!

The average day is spent… The best thing about a start up is that there is no average day! Some days are spent with our professionals, looking at the beauty and service components of our business, others days we are with our developers reviewing the technology and the exciting elements we plan to develop. We spend a lot of time doing business development and collaboration with other brands and trying to build the profile of LeSalon. We enjoy interacting with our clients and our professionals as much as possible - getting feedback about the service and what we can do to improve it.

The team consists of… Jean-Michel and myself (co-founders), Jerome - CTO, Marta our operations executive and Hannah who works on business development. We also have Ellenie interning with us until Christmas and she is helping us with community management!

My favourite quote… We have the Holstee Manifesto on the wall in our office - keeps us inspired; “This is your life. Do what you love and do it often. If you don’t like something, change it. If you don’t have enough time, stop watching TV. If you are looking for the love of your life, Stop. They will be waiting for you when you start doing things you love, stop over analysing. All emotions are beautiful. When you eat, appreciate ever last bite. Life is Simple. Open your mind, arms and heart to new things and people. We are united in our differences. Ask the next person you see what their passion is and share your inspiring dream with them. Travel Often. Getting lost will help you find yourself. Some opportunities only come once, seize them. Life is about the people you meet and the things you create with them so go out and start creating. Life is short. Live your dream and share your passion.”

I am where I am today because of… I saw a gap in a market from both sides. With young children and working long hours I could not get guaranteed quality beauty services at a competitive price at a convenient time and after extensive market research I found that there were numerous obstacles for beauty professionals who wanted to work in a freelance capacity. Hence my mission to create a platform that allows women to work safely and flexibly, increasing their earning capacity while honing their skills.

I am who I am because of… I have had the opportunity to work with some impressive people during my career, each of whom has taught me a lot and inspired me to work towards making a difference.

The best advice I’ve been given… Initiative and attitude is everything. People with the solutions are the ones who are proactive and seize the initiative to do whatever is necessary to achieve those results. Different circumstances create different challenges but what matters most is how we respond to what we experience in life.

In five years I’d like to be… Working with LeSalon...

The thing no one ever tells you about running your own business online… People tell you how challenging it will be and this should not be underestimated - the benefit is obviously that it is your own business but the flip side is that it never stops!

Our biggest mistake and what it taught us… As a start up you have to operate as leanly as possible but in the beginning we tried to keep our tech budget to a minimum which essentially meant spent a long time not getting very far - there are some things that are worth paying for!

The most rewarding experience we’ve had to date… Hearing from our professionals that we are making a difference to their working life and from clients that we provide a fantastic service!
