Shimu's oriental furniture looks good in either a contemporary or traditional setting.

Shimu specialises in the production of Chinese furniture based on original designs from the Ming Dynasty as well as sourcing and restoring oriental antiques. The furniture is handmade at its workshop in Shanghai where traditional construction methods are used. Shimu's furniture looks good in a modern environment and the range includes some contemporary pieces as well.

Amongst the collection of hand-crafted Chinese furniture, you will find wardrobes, cabinets, tables and chairs, trunks, chests, screens and accessories. The furniture is crafted from reclaimed Chinese elm wood, which is well-known for its interesting grain, as well as being kind to the environment.

Over the last four years, the company has expanded its range with two new collections, Chinese Country and Contemporary Asian that complement its flagship Classical Chinese range. The Contemporary collection has influences from Japan, South East Asia as well as China and is distinctive with its extended lid on the furniture and tapered frames. The Country range is produced from reclaimed solid elm wood with a natural finish, which makes the most of the natural grain.

If you want to change the dimensions for any piece or modify a standard design, Shimu is always happy to discuss this. The company also provides a full bespoke service, discussing your particular requirements and providing drawings and samples during the process so that the furniture you receive exactly matches your specifications.

As well as its hand-crafted ranges, the company also offers a wide collection of Chinese antique furniture. The collection is sourced from all over China and includes everything from painted chests from Tibet and Mongolia to traditional wedding cabinets from Shanxi and camphor trunks from Beijing. Each piece is carefully restored in China by skilled craftsmen before being shipped. The collection is constantly updated as Shimu sources and ships new pieces and if you are looking for a particular antique piece they are happy to try to source this for you.
