Who’d have guessed it? The tastiest Easter Egg of 2018 is gluten, dairy and soya-free.

If you gave up chocolate for Lent, there is much to look forward to as Easter approaches. Whether it’s milk, dark, white or nutty, the choice of chocs with which to celebrate your period of abstinence will be limitless. But which egg to choose?

In its annual ‘blind’ taste test of 142 Easter eggs by the Good Housekeeping Institiute, a surprise winner has emerged for 2018: vegan-friendly hazelnut chocolate truffles from artisan, producer, Booja-Booja, based in Norfolk.

Beating conventional dairy-based chocolate eggs thanks to its ‘smooth truffle filling’, the Booja-Booja hazelnut crunch chocolate truffles, which come encased in a hand-painted egg-shaped box, scored a whopping 89/100 in the taste test despite being gluten, dairy and soya-free.

Priced at £24.99, the truffles might not be the cheapest way to break your chocolate fast. By the time Easter comes round, you probably won’t care.
