Spanish adventure holidays

A modern Spanish holiday does not have to be solely about relaxing on the beach, playing in the sea or hotel pool and enjoying sangria late into the evening while the children are asleep. Many families are moving away from staying at all-inclusive resorts and are opting to experience a different aspect of Spanish life, staying at one of the many outstanding holiday villas in Spain and ensuring that their holiday embodies their spirit of adventure.

So when you are looking for affordable villa rentals with a sense of adventure, Spain is a great place to consider, boasting a number of fantastic activities that are a perfect way for families to spend quality, yet thrilling, time together.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

There is no better way to see the Spanish countryside than under the power of your own two wheels. There are many specialist companies in Spain now that offer bespoke mountain bike days out for young family members, to full-on adrenaline fuelled journeys through valleys and downhill runs for the more confident of riders.

HORSE RIDING

The Spanish are well known for their love of horses, so taking to the saddle to experience the beautiful countryside and beaches is an activity that you'll certainly remember. Whether you are climbing onto the horse for the first time, or are an experienced rider, there are a wide variety of treks and hacks available to suit all skill levels and all budgets. A day's riding is a thrilling and entirely natural way to see the best of the Spanish countryside.

CANYONING

Head up into the mountains to experience navigating down a water course using a variety of different skills, including swimming, walking, climbing and even abseiling. Canyoning is a fantastic adventure activity allowing you to get back to nature by clambering your way down the water course using a variety of means. With different venues offering different courses suited to most age ranges, canyoning is the ideal choice for the family that wants to experience something different and stay cool in the Spanish sun.

QUAD BIKES

If you have older children then quad bike tours and off-road quad biking are two of the most enjoyable and thrilling ways to spend a day. Upon arriving at your chosen destination you are given brief instructions on how to operate the bike before being issued with the required safety equipment and heading off for a spot of practice to familiarise yourself with the controls. When you are ready, the group will head off into the hills for a thrilling days riding.

WATERP

Spain is home to several great water parks and spending a day at one of them is sure to be a highlight of any trip. Aqua Tropic Water Park, near Almuňécar, for example, features a wide range of attractions, slides, a wave pool, rubber ring rapids, tubes, a slalom ride and a new attraction called the black hole which has proven hugely popular with young and old alike. With food on site, pools for smaller children and sun beds to hire, everything you need for a fun-packed day is all in one place.

Best of all, amongst all this frantic activity, there are many other activities you could consider for your family, including a range of water sports such as yachting, sea-kayaking and diving. Alternatively, you can even head off into the hills for a spot of hiking or gorge walking and if that sounds like a little too much, you can always unwind by treating your family to a relaxing spa day, or even a round of golf.

With so much to do and your villa as the central hub of your holiday, you will find there is much more to discover about Spain than your typical package holiday and that it is the perfect destination for an action-packed family holiday.
