Just because times are tough economically doesn’t mean you should give up on the idea of a holiday this year. In fact, with all the budget cuts it’s perhaps even more vital that you have the chance to get away, relax and unwind. It is, however, more important than ever before to make sure you’re getting a good deal on your holiday. In order to enjoy a cheap holiday, begin by searching comparison websites. At sites such as Beatthebrochure you can find cheap holidays, flights, accommodation and advice. However, that is not all you can do, here are five top tips for a cheap holiday.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT DESTINATION

Of course, when it comes to organising your holiday it’s all about the destination. If you’re careful, canny and up for a bit of online detective work your choice of destination can save you a huge amount of money.

The first thing to do is avoid Europe and America; these are both very expensive destinations at the moment. Why not try somewhere more exotic? For example, Goa in India offers that dream combination of spectacular scenery and extremely low living costs. Although you will have to pay slightly more on flights, once you arrive you can survive on under £10 a day.

Alternatively, actively seek out places where the pound remains strong, for example, Iceland and South Africa.

Another destination that’s really worth considering is France. Yes, it’s breaking the no Europe rule but when you factor in the relatively low costs of getting there it can still make for a cheap holiday.

When deciding on a destination, consider the activities that you’ll want to do when you arrive. A great way to save money is to choose somewhere with cheap or free activities; for example, beaches, forests or lakes.

STAY IN BRITAIN

This is often considered to be an unsatisfactory choice; however, it is a cheap option. Think of it this way: take the opportunity to see a part of the country you have never seen before, Scotland, for example.

BOOK EARLY

When it comes to getting a cheap deal on your holiday, booking early is vital. It’s worth pointing out that by early we mean seriously early; remember that everyone else will be trying to do the same thing, so booking six months before you’re due to travel may not give you that great a deal. If you can, try to book at least 11 months early; this way you’re guaranteed a good price. Alternatively, if you’re not so worried about where you want to go, book very late for last minute deals.

PACKAGE DEALS?

Generally, package holidays offer the best value for money. However, you’d be foolish not to check to see if you can book the same thing for cheaper.

TRAVEL OFF SEASON

Holiday prices are always going to be cheaper when it’s not peak season. If you can, organise your trip outside of school holidays, or popular times of year.
