5 of the best spots in Majorca

Heading on holiday is the highlight of the year for many. Jetting to pastures new, ready to relax on the beach, meet new people and try plenty of delicious food is something we look forward to all year round, so it's little wonder we often spend several months planning every last detail of our trip.

For those looking for a budget-friendly, sun-kissed and varied break this year, look no further than Majorca. This beautiful island receives over eight million visitors each year, and it's easy to see why. With plenty of stunning scenery, white sand beaches and an abundance of exotic seafood, it is many visitors' idea of paradise. If you're thinking of heading there yourself, you're in luck: we've compiled a list of our top five spots in Majorca for every taste, style and budget:

1. PALMA

For shopaholics and those who like the finer things in life, Palma is perfect thanks to its designer boutiques and large shopping mall. Almost everything can be found here, from locally-crafted furniture and fittings to designer couture and beautiful jewellery. There are also some organic food markets, perfect for those on a self-catering break who are itching to try the local recipes for themselves (try the fish market for some freshly-caught treats!).

2. PORT ANDRATZ

Golfing fans will be spoilt for choice in Majorca, with 18 (18-hole) courses to choose from. Among the best of these is the Andratz course on the south-west coast, known for being one of the most difficult in the country. Andratz is also home to the longest hole in Spain (hole six, if you're interested). Having hosted a number of championships in the past, Andratz ups the difficulty factor as it winds uphill to hole 18, so take your clubs and prepare to get competitive!

3. SANT JORDI

Sun worshippers will adore the tiny town of Sant Jordi, a quiet resort with some of the prettiest beaches on the island. Perfect for those after a quiet time, the resort gets very few visitors throughout the year due to its size and lack of commercial development. Therefore, it is perfect for those looking to recharge their batteries, as well as experience the traditional Spanish way of life. Get up early and explore, taking a ferry over to the neighbouring island of Cabrera to visit the local wildlife, before returning for an idyllic afternoon on the beach.

4. ALCUDIA

Perfect for families, those with young children should head to Alcudia for an abundance of parks, sports and even go-karting. Alcudia holidays are generally rather energetic, great for tiring the kids out before bed, and parents will find plenty to join in with too. Head over to the Hidropark (water park) for plenty of thrills, spills and excitement, including two 15-foot Kamikaze slides (only for the brave!). Of course, there are plenty of other things to do in Majorca aside from these picks; your travel agent should be able to help you plan a holiday that is perfect for you, whether travelling with friends, children or alone.

5. MAGALUF

Perfect for groups of friends, Magaluf holidays are renowned for their loud and friendly nightlife, abundance of bars and clubs and fabulous restaurants. The BCM, one of the largest nightclubs in Europe, can be found here with its internationally renowned DJs and weekly popcorn parties. You'll need plenty of energy if you choose to holiday here, as many of the nightclubs are open until 06:00, so make sure to do plenty of beach or poolside relaxing during the day to make up for it!

For those who hate planning, it's easy to organise last-minute Majorca holidays with easyJet flights heading there on a daily basis and plenty of hotels open for business. Enjoy your trip!
