Art and Architecture
If you are an art lover, then you will be in heaven on this site, which is driven by the Courtauld Institute of Art. It is beautifully designed and the level of information that it offers is breathtaking. It is a site for learning, playing host to a series of interesting articles, as well as a huge digital library. The site aims to become the nation's principal digital learning resource for the visual arts and it looks to be there already.
In order to gain maximum use out of the site, we suggest you register, which is free. Registered users can then create sets of images for their own use, keep track of pages they have visited and contribute to the scholarly discussion forums.
A&A's photographic print service has just been launched and with nearly all of the 40,000 images from the Courtauld's huge collection available online as prints, there is something to please everyone. To buy prints (from postcard size to A3), just register online to use the service. Prices are incredibly reasonable as is postage.
Click on Highlights to get the month's overview or plunder the archives for past features. Each topic leads you to a series of articles, giving you the opportunity to make your own informed decision, as well as the chance to add your own views and comments. The Quizzes keep you on your toes as you guess the value of watercolours.
On reviewing the site, the breadth of subjects covered was as follows: Stage designs, Impressionist dealers and collectors, Photographs of Anthony Blunt and the Art of Reading.
The Browse button gives you an overview of the huge digital library.
If you have the time, do click on Feedback, at the bottom of the homepage and complete the questionnaire. A&A are anxious to know what users feel about their excellent site. The audience research form takes just fifteen minutes to fill in and provided your form is completed fully, your name will be put into a monthly draw to win a set of Guides to the Courtauld Gallery.
