The Liberal Democrats

The official site of the Liberal Democrats features leader Nick Clegg on its homepage, leaving Vince Cable fans to wonder why.

BEING FAIR

Log on to the site and you'll be hit with a photo of Clegg smiling at a schoolboy. This is a visual representation of the Liberal Democrats' pledge to offer "A Fair Start for Every Child." If not a start, then an inane grin, at least. Scroll down the page and you'll discover that the Lib Dems are also about "change that works for you" and "building a fairer Britain." If you're still sentient at this point click through to the main site.

THE HOMEPAGE

It's orange, it's blue and it's got rolling photos at the top of the page. Look, some children ignorning Mr Clegg, just like in the House of Commons. To the left of the homepage you can click on What We Stand For, to the right you can Get Involved.

In the middle of the page you'll find news and pictures of Lib Dem politicians in black and white. Hover a curser over their faces and they suddenly appear in colour. What is this supposed to denote? A party waiting to be clicked on? Unless the country votes for them, the Lib Dems will remain in black and white. So vote for change, vote for colour: The Lib Dems, coming to a ballot box near you on May 6th 2010.

THE NICK CLEGG ARRIVAL

The Liberal Democrats' site feels like it was put together by a group of well meaning people who are not entirely sure what they are doing. It's a bit Beta. However, now Nick Clegg has done well on the telly and become the most popular politician since Winston Churchill perhaps the site will become a bit more slick. But will it make any difference at the ballot box come May 6th?
