The Spectator
Established in 1828, the right-wing Spectator is the oldest continuously published magazine in the English language. Under the stewardship of that noted idiot savant, London Mayor Boris Johnson, the Spectator become as famous for events off the page as for its wit and urbanity on. Since the less colourful Mathew d'Ancona took over the editorship in 2006 things have quietened down a little.
The Spectator's website is an online version of the printed edition, where you can read articles in full. However, some of the material is premium content and for access to this, you need to buy a subscription which costs £50 plus VAT. About 40 per cent of each week's issue is free to view but the rest of the content, including archive material, requires online subscription. You need to register to access the free content.
Along with features, there are reviews covering film releases, theatres, opera, books and exhibitions, as well as Taki's weekly column, High Life and Low Life, written by Jeremy Clarke. You might also enjoy Melanie Phillips fulminating paranoia in her regular blog.
