The Real News Network
The Real News Network (TRNN) is a North American online video news network which describes itself as 'a television news and documentary network focused on providing independent and uncompromising journalism.' It is updated daily.
WHO'S BEHIND IT
Founded in 2007 by its CEO, Chairman and Senior Editor, the Canadian journalist and filmmaker Paul Jay, TRNN is funded by donations from viewers and says it does not accept funding from government or corporations.
BEYOND THE MAINSTREAM
TRNN is based on the idea that mainstream media is dominated by corporate interest, PR and the viewpoint of partisan political elites. It acknowledges that it too will be affected by bias in the sources it chooses to trust, and the stories it chooses to cover, and also makes it clear that it has a very particular mission in mind:
THE STATED MISSION
With its opposition to what it sees as the complacency and complicity of maintream media in mind, TRNN states its mission thus:
'The movements for the rights of working people, women, children, immigrants, indigenous people, for freedom of religion and conscience, for moral and spiritual values and for peace and against racism are news. The health of our planet will be a story, day after day.'
TRNN says it is interested in 'fearlessly following the evidence wherever it leads.'
