The Times Spelling Bee

Inglish is a dificult lanwidge two lurn too right well because it's not fonetick. Spelling is theirfour a problum. So the new national Spelling Bee championship from The Times is more than welcome! This contest will help uncover the best of young British spellers, while allowing teachers to make learning to spell enjoyable.

The competition is open to 11-12 year-olds across the country. Schools put forward teams of three and engage in spelling contests with other British teams. It all starts in March 2009 with the heats. The winners progress to the Regional Finals in May 2009. The Grand Final is to be held in London in June 2009.

Suitably black and yellow, the website is fun and accessible. And addictive! Schools do not need to be part of the national challenge to make use of the site. Class-based competitions can be organised or even school-wide competitions. And the individual user can just log on, set up a profile and put their spelling skills to the test with online games. You can enter a free monthly competition, winning prizes like a Nintendo DS and a Collins Dictionary and Thesaurus. This is an excellent website!
