A Vision of Britain

A Vision of Britain offers historical material relating to all areas of Britain, searchable by place name or location. It is a fairly new developement, supported by lottery funding, from the Great Britain Historical GIS Project at Portsmouth University. The Travellers' Tales' section is particularly fun, allowing you to find out whether a particular place of interest has been documented by one of twelve celebrated authors (dating from the 12th century to the 19th) included here. The Historical Mapping Section is also worth a look, providing you with an opportunity to see your destination of choice located on an ancient map. This site is a really worthwhile project that could build into something very valuable.
